Children and Food Allergies

There is a close link between behavior and nutrition. If you have ever seen Jamie Oliver's "School Dinners" program, you'll note that he talked about what a difference cutting out sugars and encouraging proper balanced meals did to the students' behaviors. Within a matter of days on the new diet, students became more even tempered, their focus in class had greatly improved and they would get along in a friendlier fashion.

I can really stand behind these claims as I experienced a lot of childhood problems myself that I found out later was related to nutrition. I would often have explosive temper tantrums that would baffle my congenial parents, and have hormonal problems that made me start developing at the tender age of 10. No doctor or pediatrist could diagnose the cause of these symptoms and it wasn't until years later that I was able to do some research on the internet to discover that the cause lied in what I had been eating. I found out that the dairy milk I had for so long thought "did a body good" was in fact created by an industry where cows were injected with growth hormone to produce at a faster rate, and this growth hormone had reacted with my body chemistry and made me develop faster and harsher than I had ever expected to be normal. I had breasts that were a size D in grade 4 and by grade 12 they had hypergrown to a rediculous size FF. My period was heavy in grade 6 and my skin was errupting with acne breakouts.

The sugar and fat from the desserts and candy bars that the industry had been toting as "comforting rewarding foods" were actually part culprits in starving my body of nutrient rich foods and the symptom it created was irritability and mood swings.

The other half of the culprit, which I have learned about only recently, is cooked foods. I learned that there is something called The Raw Food Diet which says that the vast amount of healing benefits that fruits and vegetables offer cannot be fully absorbed by the body when it is also digesting cooked foods, as it takes a lot of energy to convert cooked food into proper nutrients. Consider that It can take up to 4 days to digest a steak dinner whereas it takes only hours to digest fruits and vegetables. And in the end, steak may have protein and iron, but it will not contain any medicinal benefits apart from that. Fruits, vegetables and herbs have been well documented to improve eyesight, increase energy, and balance out biochemistry.

In the research I've done, I've read many stories of people who have experienced mind boggling results on this diet, including curing their cancer, ridding themselves of their depression and even changing their eye color back to blue. Like anyone else, I had a hard time believing such consequences could happen merely from a change in diet, but since I had noticed my moods becoming more balanced with less intake of sugar, I thought I would try it. Well on the second day of having raw foods, my skin (that was still suffering from acne at 33 years of age), had cleared up and become softer than it ever had, my hair became shinier, I was already losing weight and my depression vanished. It's only my 3rd week now but I've become such a fan of this diet I set up a blog discussing my day to day journey of the changes it's making in me. It contains a lot of the research I've gathered and is a very helpful resource to anyone searching for answers that are natural, easy and inexpensive. The blog is a bit rough around the edges though as I'm still new to blogging, but I put up an easier webpage that gives you a compact illustration of the diet along with easy to find blog articles. Although they are not related to childrens' issues specifically, I feel positive that parents will find that this diet can change their childrens' lives as well.
