CHILDRENS BEDDINGS… What’s in it?

The bedroomis a private room where people usually sleep during the night and for relaxation during the day. Beddings exclude the mattress, box spring and bed frame. It only refers to the materials laid above the mattress of a bed for warmth. Childrens beddings will make bedtime a creative and imaginative time. Choosing the right childrens bedding means fun.

Since childrens bedding comes in a wide variety of fabrics and textures, parents should ensure that what they choose will actually complete the look of their children’s bedroom with a stylish and comfortable ambience. Parents also have to ensure that their childrens bedding is made up of hypoallergenic materials in order to keep them safe. Comforter, quilt, bed sheet, pillows and pillowcases are what make up a complete childrens bedding. Sheets are made of cotton or polyester and are machine washable. From butterflies to space, animals to cartoon characters and Spider Man to Power Puff Girls; the designs are endless. A wide array is available to suit the children’s taste and patterns that the children are delighted with.

As children are different, it helps them to make a choice which best suits their fantasy. The selection for children’s beddings is different for boys and for girls. Children’s beddings are made of quality material and offer durability making it last through any accidental spills or messes.

The Comforter

Comforters are a type of blanket, which is large and rectangular in shape. They are intended to keep the user warm and can be used as mattress pads. A duvet usually covers a comforter for prolonged use and protection. Duvet covers are usually closed with zippers or buttons and are like a big pillowcase for the comforter. The word duvet is a French word for “down”. Silk, wool, polyester or down feathers are what usually fills a comforter. The level of insulation and weight of the comforter is determined by the loft of the filling. In this case, childrens bedding is usually made of light materials such as cotton.

The Quilt

The quilt is a bed covering composed of a quilt top, a layer of batting and a layer of fabric for batting. Many quilts are made with decorative design and are sometimes not used as a bed covering but as display or room décor. In childrens bedding, most popular quilt designs include cartoon characters Sponge Bob Square Pants, Batman, Spider Man and Super Man. Barbie is the top pick for girls.

Bed Sheet

The large piece of cloth covering the mattress is called a bed sheet. Flat and fitted are the main varieties. The thread count or the number of threads per square inch of the material commonly conveys the quality of bed sheets. A softer bed sheet has a higher thread count. Common make of bed sheet include cotton, linen, polyester, silk, rayon and bamboo fiber. White is the common bed sheet for children’s beddings as it provides clear vision for bed bugs and other insects or foreign objects that may inhabit the child’s bed.

Pillows

Pillows are designed to provide support and comfort to the body. Types are bed, orthopedic and decorative. Common sizes are king, queen and standard. Pillow fillers are usually made from foam, synthetic fills, feather or down. Buckwheat and cotton are the most used pillow filler. Cover is either cloth or silk. A bolster is the favorite among children’s beddings.

Pillow Cases

The cover or shell of a pillow is the pillowcase or pillowslip. A sham is the fancier cover of a pillow, which is closed on all sides and has a slit at the back through which the pillow is placed. It is recommended that all types of pillow covers to be washed or laundered regularly because they are directly in contact with the person’s body. Typical pillowcases in childrens bedding is usually themed or paired with the comforter or the quilt design.

No matter how good, beautiful or expensive the childrens bedding is, it really won’t matter if the parents won’t care enough and let the bed bugs bite….
