What is Chlamydia?  Chlamydia is a very common sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by the bacterium , Chlamydia trachomatis. this bacyerial STD can damage a womans reproductive organs. Many times symptoms of Chlamydia are mild or absent, serious complications that can cause irreversable damage, including infertility, can occur. Before a woman even knows that there is a problem. Chlamydia also can cause discharge from the penis of an infected man.

How do people get Chlamydia? Chlamydia can be transmitted during vaginal,anal,or oral sex. It can also be passed from an infected mother to her baby during vaginal childbirth.

What are the symptoms of Chlamydia? About three quarter of infected women  and about one half of infected men never have any symptoms. If symptoms do occur,they usually appear within 1-3 weeks after exposure.

How is Chlamydia diagnosed? Some tests can be performed on urine,other tests require that a specimen be collected from the cervix or penis.

What is the treatment for Chlamydia? Chlamydia can be easily treated and cured with antibiotics.Several different antibiotics can be used.All sex partners should be tested and treated as well. people should abstain from having sex until they and their sex partners have completed the course of treatment or the risk of reinfection is possible.
