Amino Acids - Painlessly explained

Amino Acids is a term that most people are familiar with, but surprisingly, the majority of us have no idea as to what they really are. They are, in fact, the building blocks of protein which differ slightly from the other two – sugar and fatty acids- because they contain about 16% of nitrogen.

Protein is a requirement of all living organisms, and second only to water as the largest portion of our body weight. This type of protein is not directly gained from the diet because the dietary protein is reduced to amino acids and then reformatted, if you like, by the body to form the more specialised proteins our bodies require.

So in a nutshell, proteins are chains of amino acids connected by peptide bonds, and there are 28 or so of these amino acids associated with human health. The liver creates about 80%, but the other 20% has to be supplied by our diet and are often called Essential Amino Acids. The amino acids are all interrelated so for optimum function we require a regular supply.

A shortage of these acids can have a huge negative effect on the body similarly to the stresses caused by drug use, trauma, and infections to name but a few. An interesting side note here is that ammonia is formed in the liver as a waste product of the protein manufacture so too much protein in the diet will put a heavy load on the liver and kidneys to get rid of the stuff. Perspiration or urine smelling of ammonia is normally a good indication of this condition.

Essential Fatty Acids:

  • histidine
  • isoleucine
  • leucine
  • lysine
  • methionine
  • phenylalanine
  • threonine
  • tryptophan
  • valine

Chlorella will supply all your Essential Fatty Acid requirements, and a whole lot more beside. Chlorella really is a “superfood” and not just an advertising selling point as is often the case with some supplements.

I will finish this article as I normally do by banging on about the positive benefits that massage can have on your prostate. And I don’t mean the invasive internal type either. Just a simple piece of non medical kit that you sit on, fully clothed, is all you need. I really do think that every man over the age of 45 should have one of these it is that important. Take a look and see for yourself.
