Lollipop Favors

Chocolate lollipops make the perfect party favors. They are great for Birthdays, Weddings, Showers, Classroom Parties and any other occasion where you want to hand out beautiful and delicious favors. Yummy! Once you get the hang of it, making chocolate lollipops is very easy. It is even a fun project you can do with your kids.

First, you need to decide what kind of chocolate you would like for your lollipops. You can use milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, etc. Merkens chocolate is a very popular chocolate used in candy making.

Then, you need to melt your chocolate. The chocolate needs to be melted very slowly on low heat in order to avoid burning. You can use a double boiler or a large pot with a smaller bowl on top (just be sure the bowl does not touch the hot water in the pot).

Place lollipop sticks into the molds. Then, after your chocolate is melted and slightly cooled, you can begin filling your molds using a piping bag, squeeze bottle or spoon. When they are all filled, tap the molds gently on the tabletop to smooth out the tops of the chocolate. Then, place the molds in the freezer to harden. This can take about 5-10 minutes.

Once hardened, carefully pop the lollipops out of their molds. You can then place them in FDA approved candy bags, and tie with a ribbon. Personalized party favor tags also make a great touch!

Quick Facts

  • since chocolate is an oil based vegetable, water and steam can cause it to have a dull, unappealing finish and may over thicken it so that it is difficult to pour
  • chocolate melts between 98-100 degrees Fahrenheit
  • An average lollipop uses 1 ounce of chocolate
  • use microwave and freezer safe containers for melting and handling chocolate
  • you can also melt chocolate in the microwave
  • it is preferable to cool filled chocolate molds in the freezer. Depending on the size of the candy, this can take 5-10 minutes
  • if you must cool the chocolate in the refrigerator, this can 3 times longer to cool and the surface of the finished chocolate may not be as shiny. Plus, they may be more difficult to remove from the molds

I made chocolate lollipops with my kids a few years ago and we had a great time. We should probably make them again. I also made chocolate fish using some cookie molds for a school project. That was a lot of fun too. Great idea for a hub.
