The condition.

A strong association between cholesterol management and exercise has been established by detailed study and investigations. It is now being publicized by some as an alternative therapy in cholesterol management, while others perceive it as a supplemental therapy to manage levels of lipoproteins and triglycerides. I tend to agree with the second.

The medical Practitioners know the best about this condition, the medication required, and your condition to take up exercise. Please do not ignore this aspect. I would not want to get into another trouble for the sake of the first. Jumping into an exercise regime blindly, can result in serious injury or trigger another complication.

The term ‘Management’ doesn’t differentiate between whether someone has been diagnosed with the condition or just wants to keep it within the range determined to be good, as a proactive measure.

There are no symptoms that stand out for an untrained person to know that the condition has developed. Only diagnostic tests can reveal the level of cholesterol. It is essential to get a regular check up if you have  any of the causative factors.

The Causes of high cholesterol.

  1. Diabetes, Liver, Thyroid and Kidney conditions, can be the cause. Tests for these are routinely done to eliminate the root cause of the condition. Be vocal and ask for these tests, if not prescribed.
  2. Your genes can be a cause. Tell your Doctor about your family history of all deceases. This is very helpful.
  3. Laid back lifestyle. Lack of Physical exercise, can also be the cause.
  4. Obesity has been identified as a leading cause.
  5. Eating habits and diet can be the cause.
  6. Age and gender is also a factor.
  7. Stress, worry, tension and grief can be a cause.
  8. Drug and substance dependency can be a cause.
  9. A combination of any of these factors is also possible. A comprehensive diagnosis is a must.

The Exercise

Regular exercise can reduce LDL cholesterol up to 10% of the diagnosed level, while increasing the HDL by about 5%.

Both aerobic (Rapid or Power walk, Jogging, swimming, cycling, Pranayama), and anaerobic (Strolling, yoga etc.) are beneficial for management. Consult you Doctor on what suits you. It may take 2 months for aerobic and up to 3 months for anaerobic exercises to show results. A combination of medication and exercise can restore your health faster.

Exercise for about half an hour, every day, if possible or at least four days a week.

Plan your workouts. Lose the idiot box, lose the laptop. They must have gotten into trouble in the first place.

Take long walks with your companion, rekindle the romance!

Have sex as many times as possible. Partner legit of course! Carry that stupid expression of ecstasy all day long!

Cycle up an incline, the coast down will relax you!

Get a stray dog from the pound. Walk it! This is a good idea. You don’t want it to poop all over your place do you?

Walk to the super market. It is only a block away!

Take the staircase elevators and escalators are for the invalid. O.K., so your office is on the twelfth floor! Walk up the first four, catch the box there. Walk down all the floors.

Park your car two blocks away, walk the rest.

Dance for all you are worth! Enjoy!

Romp with children! Laugh your heart out!

Take a holiday, go trekking, and live with nature.

Take up gardening as a hobby. Fall in love with the plants. Work on them, nurture them, you don’t want them to die, do you?

Pace the office, pace the home, stretch and lean, Fidget, twiddle your thumbs and chew gum. Every little piece of action helps.

Be happy about what you are doing! You will get that flat tummy you always wanted!

Yes, you will have some sore parts, no price to pay at all for a healthy life. Bash on nevertheless! Don’t make an excuse of it to stop.

Build in physical activity into you daily routine. Use up the stored fat. Mix and match all the workout options available to you. That way “It’s so boring!” will not be an excuse to stop the exercise altogether.

Start strong on the resolve, small on the workout. Build up on both gradually. You could reach the peak by tenth day. Get in the groove, maintain it lifelong.
