Choosing Appropriate Wedding Favors
54It's difficult to choose wedding favors. There are so many beautiful options. But that task is multiplied when you have special considerations at your wedding. Whether for religious, personal or moral reasons, a conservative attitude toward your wedding can immediately remove many favor choices. How do you avoid offending a conservative group and maintain a fun and friendly atmosphere?
First, cross off all of the wedding favor options that your group might associate with impropriety. If your family does not drink, count wine stoppers and corkscrews out. Likewise, forget about flasks, mixer sets and other items that could be associated with alcohol. If cigarettes are taboo, avoid matchbooks and lighters. While it's true that they can be used for lighting candles and fireplaces, they may also cause controversy.
Consider the spiritual motivations of you, your fiancé, and your families. If you are deeply religious, and religious imagery will not be offensive to your families, consider favors that reflect those values. Key chains, picture frames and candles are available with cross motifs, stars of David and other religious icons. If you are personalizing your favors, consider adding a line from your religious texts to convey your spiritual thoughts.
If your families are of mixed religious preferences, or if you simply would like to rely on your theme, there are still many appropriate options. Small candles and soaps are very elegant, feminine favors that can conform to any color scheme. Bookmarks, magnets and coasters are unique modern ideas that can appeal to any group. Choose an element out of your theme, such as butterflies, seashells or a heart pattern, and look for favors that reflect that image.
A very close-knit family will particularly enjoy favors that are community-oriented. Picture frames with photos of the entire family are lovely favors that become sentimental keepsakes. Consider speaking to the married couples in your family about favors. You may discover that there is a longstanding tradition that you can continue. By doing so, you involve your family more closely in your wedding.
When in doubt, remember that edible favors are very common, inexpensive, and simple to assemble. Ever-popular Jordan almonds, mints, nuts and dried fruit are traditional treats that can be displayed in tulle sachets, boxes or tins. Take a whimsical turn with candy "hugs" and "kisses," tucked into tiny baskets or bowls. Many companies offer customized candy wrappers, allowing you to print your names and wedding date on any type of miniature candy bar.
A conservative wedding does not have to be blasé. Your wedding decorations, bridal bouquet and flowers, and even your favors, can be as colorful and expressive as you'd like. Simply remember to consider the thoughts and feelings of your group when choosing appropriate favors. Avoid any controversy that popular favor items could inspire, and instead focus on your theme, family and beliefs. You'll soon find that there are many options that would be perfect for your wedding.
