Glass Tanks Aquariums

Aquariums are specially designed miniature houses to grow fish inside or outside a house. Why they are specially designed is because aquariums have tanks which are made of enforced glass to keep water inside without leaking and breaking apart that may cause all the aquariums’ ornaments and fish all over the floor.

The tank itself can be light-weighted or terribly heavy, depends on the aquariums’ sizes and material of the tank.

If you have big sized aquariums with tanks made of glass, they will be very heavy and hard to lift, unless you have strong power. But if you have only small sized aquariums, even though the tanks are made of glass, they will not be so hard to be lifted and moved around the house. One thing in common is, having aquariums with glass tanks needs more cautions because they easily break and leak.

Some aquariums, are, made of extremely thick and strong glass tanks built to withstand the pressure and the weight of at least ninety litres of water. The tanks are as big as eight or nine feet long and three or four feet wide; you can imagine the amount of water needed to fill those tanks and the pressure on the glass! Surprisingly enough, the glass does not break and the sealed sides can withstand the weight of the water.

Acrylic Tanks Aquariums

However, you can, too choose acrylic aquariums; those are aquariums whose tanks are made of acrylic materials. Since acrylic is transparent, light polymers (the same materials used to make plastics), they make light-weighted aquariums. Furthermore, though half the weight of glass in the same sizes, acrylic is at least twice as strong as glass it self.

Another benefit of having aquariums with acrylic tanks is the tank can be moulded when heated to suit whatever shape or style you want. Also, when the sides are moulded together with heat they are stronger than the sealant used to hold the glass together.

Just remember, whichever you choose, just make sure you know all the risks and benefits of each aquariums tanks; if you choose glass they may cost less but heavy and fragile, if you choose acrylic they may cost a little higher but light and quite strong.

Enjoy your aquarium hobby!
