Tomato Varieties For Your Location

When choosing which tomato varieties to grow this season, the "days to maturity" is one of the most important considerations to ensure a good crop, especially if you live in a short season area.

If you are in a short season area it makes sense to grow tomatoes whose days to maturity are between 55 to 70 days. This means that fruit could be expected 55 to 70 days after you transplant into the plants final position.

Short season areas include: the Pacific NorthWest, Great Lakes Region the North East United States and the entire UK!

Varieties to grow include:

  • New Yorker, 60-65 days to maturity

  • Alaskan Fancy, 55 days to maturity

  • Oregon Spring, 60 days to maturity

  • Also, Most Eastern European & Russian Varieties grow well in cooler climates (often black varieties).

Here is a link to a list of varieties that are suitable to wherever you live.

Short, mid and late season varieties.
