Casket Introduction

Different civilizations burry the dead people in different ways such as mummification, burning, putting the body six feet under the ground surface. No matter what the chosen method is, there is one thing that always stays the same. This is when friends and family gather together in order to show their respect and to say goodbye. When someone dies, his relatives go to a funeral home and choose a coffin or casket in which the deceased is going to be buried in. The funeral directors will present different alternatives- various designs and materials for the casket.

Types of Coffins

The coffins are mainly two types - made of metal and made of wood. The wood used for furniture is more expensive in comparison with the one used for caskets (mahogany, pine, walnut, pecan, oak, ash, cherry, and maple). There are also different available finishes that provide a great look. The metal caskets (bronze, steel, stainless steel, and copper) may have no protective or protective finish against water and air. One of the things provided by the steel caskets is the memorial tube or the identifying kit which helps in cases when the body has to be identified if it needs to be exhumed and transported to another place.

Casket Materials

The material used inside also determines the price of the casket. It plays a huge role during the layout and viewing of the body. If you visit a casket store you'll see the different varities available.  Many of the customers prefer the models with middle price. If you have enough money, the casket should reflect the profession, religion, organizational affiliation or the lifestyle of the deceased. You can also order certain engraving outside or inside the casket. Some individuals choose a casket in which there is enough space for people to place things that the deceased is going to need in the after life. The family members or the person itself should choose in advance the right casket by checking the offered rates and promotions long before that day comes.

Casket Construction and Quality

Most of the caskets come with one or two hinge doors. This is made in order to ensure that the family and friends will be able to see for the last time the deceased (the upper part of the body or the whole body). Before purchasing the casket you have to check it very carefully for scratches and cracks. There are people who rent a casket for the funeral, particularly if the person wanted to be cremated after death. In that case you have to prepare an urn in which the remains of the deceased will be placed.
