Choosing a Projection Screen

Projection Screens for Conferences
There are two different screens that are used for a conference event. The front screen fits just about anywhere and you don't have to include a projection screen booth. In fact, the front screen is the most used.
With the rear screen, the people can take notes and look at the presenter straight in the eye. You have a better contrast image because there is reduction in the immediate lighting. The shadows are non-existent as the presenter walks in front of the screen. The surface for the screen needs to coordinate with your projection source and lighting.
High Gain Screens
If you choose a high gain screen, it can help to keep the lights up high while people are taking notes or having a discussion. The gain is when the projector light is sent to a certain location. This is done by measuring the screen's capability. The high gain screen will also show lighting if people are located in the horizontal and vertical areas. A wide-angle screen evens it out. You will probably have to test some angles to see what will work best for you.
Audience Seating
You should not have people seated outside of a 90 degree angle because this will pose problems for the screen. The majority of screens available direct the light toward the people if they are within the 90 degree angle guide. If the shot is greater than 90 degrees, then your picture will look dim without enough lighting.
Screen Details
The screen you purchase should be flat, especially if your presentation included text. If the screen is rippled, the text will look wobbly and not show well. You can correct the ripple problem by having something that can pull the tension. This will help it get straight and the focus will improve.
You may want to consider putting black borders around the screen. This provides the screen with a classic look. Not only that, the black borders hides anything that's not even in regard to the projector. It also gives an image a brighter and colorful look.
The screen you purchase must be durable and you should be able to have multiple uses from it. If you have a motorized screen, this is extremely crucial, as the screen could bulk up if not set up and operated properly. You don't want to have to spend a lot of money repairing a screen, so it's better to try and do it correctly.
Planning
If you have to order your screen, please allow ample time to do so, as most rear and motorized screens, and even some wall screens have to be ordered weeks or maybe months in advance. These items are not normally kept in stock, collecting dust. If you have an idea or know the date of your conference, it is best to order early to prevent any delays or mix-ups.
Whatever screen you decide on, make sure it is of quality, durable and reliable. The last thing you want is a screen that is not up to par for your presentation.
