Choosing skincare products
69The ranges of skincare products that are now available are vast, and this in itself is enough to confuse anyone when trying to choose the right skincare product. There are lotions, creams, cremes, oils and even souffles all claiming to make your skin wonderfully soft and smooth. Knowing where to start is almost impossible when standing in front of shelf after shelf of products.
It is sometimes easier to make your decisions at home, rather than go out to the shops and get bombarded with products, and thanks to the internet this is super easy to do. There are loads of forums that have beauty sections and these are worth a read to see what is being recommended. Also, it is the best way to determine a) your skin type and b) what kind of skincare products you might need. Many manufacturers websites have questionnaires you can fill out online about your skin and will come back with your skin type and suggested products, of course these will be specific to this manufacturer, but it is always useful to do.
Moisturisers are one of the most commonly purchased products, and are also one of the most extensive and confusing ranges of skincare products you will find. Moisturisers can do everything these days, from toning and firming to reducing cellulite to evening out skin tone. If none of these take your fancy you might want to go for something that is going to perk up your tired legs, or soothe your aching feet or perhaps you want to get a bit of a tan while your mousturise - seriously the ranges are crazy! From a purely personal point of view I just want a moisturiser that is going to help my skin stay soft and smooth and prevent any lizard skin moments.
Other than moisturisers there are products that can help with skin conditions such as acne, eczema and rosecea which are more likely to be found in a specialist section or even a health shop, depending on the type of thing you are looking for. There are great ranges of natural skincare products available these days which are just as good, if not better than the more chemical based products. The only problem here is the price as natural products tend to be more expensive as they use more expensive ingredients, however, you do get what you pay for and I find natural products a lot kinder on my skin that others.
You will find a lot of health shops have websites and they offer free trials of many of their products, as people are always reluctant to spend a lot of money on a new produt that they may not like, so this is a great way to test things and is a simple as filling out your details and clicking request. Making sure you are using the right skincare products is important as our skin is put through it's paces every single day and deserves a little TLC!
