I completely agree with the first Hubber's post that the most precious gift you can give your child or children is spending quality time with them. As you will build a secure bond and as you observe and advise them, playing games and feeling pride as you watch them develope and grow.

Most parents remember their children's first steps, first words and many other firsts with fondness. Being there to witness the developement and taking an active part in their early life is also the perfect gift for you as a parent, teacher, nurse, advisor, coach and many other roles as your kids will look to you in their quest for knowledge.

The Christmas season is filled with constant advertising of the latest, greatest must have ideal gift's that are usually very expensive and containing bulky multi coloured packaging. There is no escape from the advertising people during this period, T.V., newspapers, magazines, shop windows, busses, taxi's and everywhere else that they can get their clients products to be seen.

Only you will know your own children the best and are able to point them in what you feel will be the right direction. Do you get them toy guns and encourage agressive behaviour? Or, a blank A4 notepad and a set of crayons or paints to bring out their artistic side? Whatever you choose for your children to play with will get their imagination working one way or another.

Financial security for their future is also a main consideration and at this point I have to admit absolutely no knowledge of US Government bonds as described in your first Hubber's reply but if they are as described, then it could be a good investment.
