Choosing your Baby’s Name
65What’s in the name, that parents took time to search for the best name for their child? As a mother I have been to that as well, especially during the last few weeks before my due date. I wanted to make sure that the name my husband will submit is correctly spelled. I have known beforehand that I will be delivering a baby girl but just to make sure I have prepared both baby girl’s name and baby boy’s name. I don’t want to rush when the hospital will get the details and we can’t give one. It would be a disappointment if they’ll just put “Baby Girl” or “Baby Boy” in the birth certificate.
Misspelled name can make a lot of trouble. Consistency in documents is a must to be binding and legal. Well if your name was misspelled but you’ve used that all the while then there will be no problem at all. Just like Oprah Winfrey. Her name should have been Orpah but because someone had become negligent it became Oprah in her birth certificate. Maybe she was thankful for the mistake because I think Oprah was a better choice and her name brought her more fame that she could have ever imagined.
For Oprah it was a good one but for most it is not; because Josie can become Jose (poor little girl). Make sure to double check everything because your baby’s name will be a lifetime use and will be your baby’s trademark forever.
Something to watch out to:
- Avoid naming your baby with the names of the most popular figure of your time. You’re baby might end up having the same name as everybody else.
- If thinking of a unique name make sure that the name is unthinkable by other parents.
- If you have decided to have two or three names for your baby, beware of the initials that it may come up to. eg. Beauty Odessa (BO) or Catherine Olivia Whitney (COW).
- Another caution for multiple names: rhyming names may cause an annoyance to your child as rhyming names such as Hailey Lily has an easy access of being a laughing matter.
- Make a search for the origin of such name. It may sound good but you may not know that it was related to some unpleasant happening. Or maybe the famous owner of such name had some ugly traits or the name itself has a negative meaning.
- Always remember that your baby will soon grow up; consider a name that will suit from childhood until the prime of their lives.
- Of course be watchful of the spelling. A single letter omitted, added, changed or interchanged may mean a lot. Eg. Matriona to Matrona, Ester to Easter, Deval to Devil, Sela to Seal
About my baby Sam’s name origin
Charia Samher is my baby’s name. The first word came from the name Maria, but instead of just the usual Maria I have changed M to Ch which is the first two letter of my husbands name Chito. I wanted a part of my name as well; my nickname is Sol. Sol means “the Sun Goddess / Sun / King Sun” and so I have thought of “Summer”. I have changed Summer to Samher. Sam is usually a boy’s name and so I have emphasized that my Sam is not a him but a her.

Sorry--I think you answer my question already. My bet.
A new baby girl on it's way how exciting! Best of luck to you and your family Charia. I love how you came up with your daughter Sam's name, very sweet and original.
Hi anglnwu and Dottie. I'm sorry to disappoint you guys but my baby Sam was already delivered almost three years ago; although I'm planning to have another one next year. =) Thank you guys.
oooops, didn't mean to start no rumor Charia, lol. I knew you had a little girl Sam but it was in the 2nd sentence of this hub, "As a mother I have been to that as well, especially during the last few weeks before my due date." that's what through me off! Well, I guess I'll have to wait another year for the good news, hehe.
Haha..well I think I have to improve my English more. LOL! I'll see what I can do with that. Thanks. =)
Your English and the way you express in writing is very nice. We all make common errors now and again. Sometimes I have to stop and think if I use the right tense, for instance I'm not sure if the word use I used should have been or should be used. LOL! English can be very confusing even for those of us who grew up with it! :)
if tyou'll ask me I want 4 kids three boys and 1 girl hehehe, I like the idea that my soldier's name would me Ezekiel Oskar, Daniel John, Nathaniel Mark and Amber Kim... I hope my fiancee could give me these wonderful blessings... if not i will be thankful to our Creator...
Yes Dottie you are so right about that; I also make a lot of mistakes with my very own native tongue LOL =)
Hi General! Those were beautiful names. I hope your very first soldier, Ezekiel Oskar will soon be born. =)
Hi Sol, you are a sun goddess! Wow! My name Michelle means one who is like God? I think there is some confusion there and that's why they placed the question mark at the end? LOL Seriously, baby names are important for the person will carry the name all his/her life. As for me,I love my name! :)
hehehe yeah i hope so... you have a very beautiful name for your baby is that your name too?
LOL teacher Michelle! No need to put question mark. You know what, I think your name suits you well. =)
No general, I have just used my baby's name as my alias LOL! =)
Believe it or not Sol, in a baby book once, I saw the meaning with a question mark...which made me laugh out loud :)
haha definitely an error, but I'm sure it made you think. LOL!

Let’s face it: for the most part, you don’t even really care “What’s happening?” on Twitter in the lives of your closest friends. 140 characters doesn’t really give a lot of room for strong opining, philosophical reverie or deep musing. It is, mostly, a perfect length to allow people to express their love for their [...]

First of all, congratulations--you must be anxiously happy. Good advice on how to choose a name. The Chinese believe in well-chosen names too, in fact, there are usually 2 words plus surname and each word symbolizes something.
So, what's your baby's name?
