Finding a Bariatric Surgeon

Once you have made the decision that a surgical procedure is the best way to help you reach and maintain a healthy weight, you need to decide where to have your bariatric surgery performed. There are many great resources available on the internet to help you along this process.

First decide if you are going to stay local or if you are willing to travel for your surgery. The advantage of traveling is that it doesn't limit the possible surgeons or bariatric surgical centers by location. You can make your decision based on other factors such as experience, specialization, or a strong reference. The advantage of having your weight loss surgery done close to home is that you will be able to visit your surgeon more easily for follow up check ups and monitoring.

Once you know the city or region that your would like your surgery to take place in, you can begin searching for your surgeon in a number of different ways. A great place to start is The American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery located at: http://www.asmbs.org

Here you can find a surgeon based on your geographic preference. Once you have decided on a possible surgeon to discuss your weigh loss surgery procedure with, you should also take a look into the clinic he or she works with.

These clinics usually have excellent information about their practice as well as general weight loss surgery information that may be of benefit to you. You are welcome to review the clinic where I practice at: www.westernbariatricinstitute.com
