57
Chris Crawford founded the Computer Game Developers Conference, an event held annually in San Jose California, which brings together programmers, graphics artists, sound engineers, industry professionals and a fair number of computer game fans to discuss the technical details of developing better games for both desktop computers and game consoles.
Mr. Crawford is widely regarded as one of the finest game designers the industry has ever known and is credited with more than one benchmark accomplishment in the field of game design. Chris Crawford developed a scrolling map display for his game Eastern Front which may have been the first microcomputer-based wargame similar to tabletop wargames. Crawford did some of his commercial work at Atari where he was hired in 1979 and he eventually rose to head the Games Research Group at Atari during his employment there. His current project, the Storytron, an interactive storytelling system he has been developing for years, is set for release at the end of 2007.Share it! — Rate it: up down [flag this hub]
