88Christening Cakes
Choosing a christening cake style or baptismal cake can be a fun experience! There are so many beautiful and cute options available. Most often christening cakes are built in structure like a wedding cake. They are often made up of three circular cakes in three different sizes, stacked on top of each other in order of size with the smallest cake being at the top. For smaller parties you can get a christening cake that is only two circular cakes or even one if you prefer. Another option is to have a cake in the shape of a baby shoe or Moses basket. Or, maybe even an open Bible shaped cake would be a good background for a christening cake.
Here are some ideas to inspire and information about what to look for in christening cakes.
Theme
Christening cakes can take on a baby 'cutsie' theme or something more traditional or elegant. The parents will have a feel for what the overall theme of the party is meant to represent to them so cues can be taken from them. Cake toppers for christening cakes consist of baby-themed designs such as teddy bears, balloons, baby shoes, a Moses basket with a baby topper inside, a pacifier, ducks, baby animals like elephants, etc. Other decorations that can be added are flowers, ribbons, butterflies, and circular button shapes. You can also go with something very elegant by using monogram cake toppers.
Color
The whole christening occasion tends to have a lot of white, the christening gown and decorations for example. For this reason, the christening cake will also most likely be white. White does not mean boring though. You can have a white cake decorated very elegantly and it will help to contribute to the overall color theme of the party. Bits of pastel colors look very nice and can be added in flowers or other decorations on the christening cake itself.
Flavor
Flavors for christening cakes can be whatever you would like them to be. Most often, you will find that a plain vanilla cake with a white icing is the most popular. Of course, if you would still like a white cake to go along with the color theme of the party, you can have the icing white and still go with chocolate or another flavor inside. Don't forget fresh berries. These can not only add wonderful color and texture to your christening cake, but also great flavor as well.
There are various fillings and frostings that can be chosen when having a christening cake made. Some of the choices include: vanilla buttercream, chocolate buttercream, white chocolate buttercream, chocolate cream, etc.
Inscriptions
Inscriptions for christening cakes can be made to read exactly what you would like to convey. Here are some ideas:
- the baby's full name and birth date or christening date
- the baby's first name only
- a Bible verse
- an inspirational saying
Other uses for christening cake designs could be for the baby's birthday. A lot of the designs available would suit a birthday cake or even a baby shower cake just as well.
Another idea for a christening cake, would be a compilation of pretty little cupcakes all displayed on a elegant cupcake tiered stands. Decorate them each individually and each guest gets to have one all to themselves!
A christening is a momentous occasion. Choose the christening cake wisely and know that it will be remembered either in thought or in photos for a very long time. Photos of the christening cake will be memorialized in the baby's scrapbook so he or she can look at it and see what a wonderful event surrounded his or her christening occasion.

That's a beautiful cake that you pictured in your hub - I love the pink color. Most Christening Cakes I have seen have been white. I agree it's important to choose a cake and centerpiece carefully. It will be in many family scrapbooks.
Paula May, what a pretty cake. One of my sons' Christening cakes was a disaster. I ordered a sheet cake and request a simple little cross. I was aiming for the "elegant" you mentioned. I was hoping for baby blue trim. I got something very close to royal blue, and the "geniuses" who decorated the cake drew a giant, ugly, cross with - like - cake decorating gel! (Royal blue-ish) It was horrible!! What a nightmare! :) Maybe your Hub will help new parents to realize to mention the desired "mood" of the cake when they're ordering.
excellent information..
