Oneness, Unity, Koinonia

Dr. Kluane Spake

It was the final prayer of Jesus that we become ONE (John 1). In that way, the world will know that the Father sent the Son to this world. Why is it soooo difficult for us to be ONE? Why is unity difficult to comprehend?

The study of Unity is a huge subject. For now, let's just take a look at some of the concepts of oneness in the Scriptures.

RIGHTLY DISCERNING THE BODY (1 Cor. 11:30).

1. John the Baptist was the voice of "one" (not two) (Matt. 3:3; Mk. 1:3).

2. Husband and wife are to be "one flesh" (Matt. 10:7-9; Eph. 5:31).

3. The prayer of Jesus already accomplished, that we be "one" demonstrating glory (Jn. 17:11,21-23).

4. The disciples continued in "one accord" (Acts 1:14; 2:46; 4:24; 5:12).

5. The early Church was of "one heart" with all things common (Acts 4:32).

6. The Samaritans heard Philips's preaching with "one accord" (Acts 8:6).

7. God has made of "one" blood all nations ("ethnos") of men (Acts 17:26).

8. We are "ONE BODY" with different functions (Rom. 12:4-6).

9. We are to glorify God with "one mind and one mouth" (Rom. 15:6).

10. We join together with "ONE VOICE" to praise God (Rom. 5:15-16)

11. He or she that is joined to the Lord is "one spirit" (1 Cor. 6:17).

12. We being many are "one bread, and one body" (1 Cor. 10:17).

13. All races & classes, baptized into ONE BODY (1 Cor. 12:12-14).

14. God has set every "one" of the members in the Body (1 Cor. 12:18).

15. If "one" suffers or is honored, all suffer and rejoice with him (1 Cor. 12:26).

16. NOW we are the body of Christ. As "ONE BODY" we function with differing positions and gifts (1 Cor. 12:27-31).

17. We are a new creation made one, the old is gone (2 Cor. 5:17).

18. Simplicity of the Gospel = oneness (2 Cor. 11:3-4).

19. We are all "one" in Christ Jesus - every race, class, and gender (Gal. 3:27-28).

20. We tell the truth because we are one body (Eph. 4:25).

21. Jesus, our Peace, has made Jew and Gentile both "one" (Eph. 2:14).

22. The Church, the Body of Christ, is "one new man" (Eph. 2:15).

23. There is "one body" of Christ with "one Lord" and "one faith" (Eph. 4:4-5).

24. In the fullness of time, Jesus gathers us together into one (4:13, 15b).

25. We are to be of "one accord" and "one mind" (Phil. 2:2; 1 Pet. 3:8).

26. He who sanctifies and we who are sanctified are "all of one" (Heb. 2:11).

27. "One" offering perfected forever those who are sanctified (Heb. 10:14).

28. We seek "one" continuing city (an abiding remnant)(Heb. 13:14).

29. "One" sat upon the throne in the Most Holy Place (Rev. 4:2).

30. Each of the twelve gates of the City was made of "one" pearl (Rev. 21:21).

  • The Force of Thanksgiving - Dr. Kluane Spake

Thankfullness is a much underrated FORCE for believers. It is the MISSING LINK. Thanksgiving is the power cord to finding contentment! It is the avenue to our peace. When we TRUST God, we can be truly thankful. Godly thanksgiving give us immunity to depression, worry, envy, anger, and resentment. It heals our sorrows and disappointments. - 3 days ago

  • More Thoughts on Tithing and “Tithing UP!”

But, New Testament giving should not be out of "legalism" or "obligation." Nor should our giving be because of reward, or given out of fear of Divine retribution. Tithing should not be to "open the windows of heaven." Those windows are now open and never shut. - 3 weeks ago

  • OUR 95 Theses

Dr. Kluane Spake writes On October 31, out of love for the truth, the Priest and Reverend Father Martin Luther, Master of Arts and Sacred Theology, and lecturer at Wittenberg, nailed his 95 Thesis (Theses) upon the door of the Wittenburg church. These statements stood against the current trends of the church and pronounced truths. The church of today has greatly benefited from Martin Luther's efforts. - 5 weeks ago

  • NY Times Singles Out Vallejo As Battleground Between Gays & ChristiansSFist22 hours ago

Vallejo Mayor Osby Davis Last week, the NYT wrote this rather provocative piece about the collision between evangelical Christians and transplanted LGBT people in Vallejo -- which as you should know is right in our backyard and closer than wine country. A goodly sized gay segment moved into the North Bay town during this last couple economic cycle, lured by decent real estate at bargain prices ...
