Christian Memorial Day Poems

A GREAT CHOICE OF CHRISTIAN POEMS
These are some of my favorite Christian Memorial Day poems. They are appropriate to use in any church program or salute to our loved ones who are fighting or have fought in the armed forces. I have worked with many organizations and church groups in the past and present. These selections have been enjoyed by a number of them.
THANK GOD
Thank God,
For the citizens,
Of the USA!
Who put their lives
On the line,
Each
And everyday.
Who walk in bravery
Every
Step of the way,
Thank God,
For the citIzens,
Of the USA!
Thank God,
For the citizens,
Of the USA!
Who sacrifice,
Their life long stay,
To cut it short,
At any day,
For the Peace,
And the Freedom,
Of us,
Who in,
Homeland stay.
Thank God,
For the citizens,
Of the USA!

PATRIOTISM
Breathes there the man with soul so dead,
Who never to himself hath said,
"This is my own, my native land?"
Whose heart hath ne'er within him burned,
As home his footsteps he hath turned,
From wondering on a foreign strand?
If such there breathes, go, mark him well:
For him no minsterel raptures swell:
High tho' his titles, proud his name,
Boundless his wealth as wish can claim,
Despite those titles, power and pelf,
The wretrch, concerted all in self,
Living, shall forfeit fair renown,
And, doubly dying, shall go down
To the vile dust from wench he sprung,
Unwept, unhorned, and unsung.
Sir Walter Scott
LET THE FLAG WAVE
Let the flag wave! Aye, let it wave on high,
It's red and white and blue against the sky!
From crest and casement, board and bright and brave,
Let the flag wave!
Let the flag wave! Aye, let it wave above
The hills and valleys of the land we love
And o'er the sea, to no mad tyrant slave,
Let the flag wave!
Let the flag wave! Aye, let it's glory shine!
Let the flag wave, a symbol and a sign!
To guard our honor and to shield and save,
Let the flag wave!
Let the flag wave! Aye, wave in all men's sight,
It's stars unsullied as the stars of night:
It's stripes unblemished; only this we crave-
Let the flag wave!
New York Sun.
YOUR FLAG AND MY FLAG
Your flag and my flag!
And oh, how much it holds-
Your land and my land-
Secure within it's folds!
Your heart and my heart
Beat quicker at the sight:
Sun-kissed and wind-tossed--
Red, white and blue,
The one flag --the great flag--the flag for me and you--
Glorified all else beside--the red and white and blue!
Wilbur D. Nesbit.
WE'LL SCATTER THE BLOOMS OF MAYTIME
We'll scatter the blooms of Maytime
Over each silent grave,
Letting their fragrant beauty
Honor the true and the brave.
Green are the beds of glory
Where thr heros are resting today;
Bright is their hollowed story
That never shall pass away.
We'll scatter the blooms of Maytime
With memories forever dear,
That linger in golden beauty
Throughout every passing year;
Not as these lovely blossoms
Whose brightness is for a day,
But ever through life's deep hours,
We'll cherish their fame for aye.
"INVICTUS"
Out of the night that covers me
black as the pit from pole to pole
I thank whatever Gods may be
for my unconquerable soul
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud
Under the bludgeonings of chance
my head is bloody, but unbowed
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
looms but the horror of the shade
and yet the menace of the years
finds, and shall find me, unafraid
It matters not how straight the gate
how charged with punishments the scroll
I am the master of my fate
I am the captain of my soul
by William Earnest Henley
