Christian Finances: Caring for the Poor
68Christian financial planning should include charity
"He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise" (Luke 3:11, King James Version).
One of the cornerstones of Christian finances is setting aside some money for the poor. Helping others through charity is an important part of ordering your finances based on Christian principles. Like the widow who gave the mite (see Mark 12:38-44), we will not be judged on how much we can give, but whether we give what we can.
Ever since the founding of Christianity, and even in Old Testament times, God has commanded us to give unto others and to share with others. It is important to take this into consideration when do our financial planning. Do we include charity in our budgets? And, you will find that even though you may not become wildly wealthy, charitable giving can help you manage what finances you do have more successfully. And you will always be rich in spirit when you help others and seek to do the Lord's work.
For your Bible study pleasure, here are a very few of the at least 300 verses related to giving to the poor, and to the blessings promised when we are charitable:
Deut. 15:7
Deut. 26:12
Lev. 19:19
Matt. 5:42 and 19:20
Luke 12:33 and 12:44
Prov. 22:9
Isa. 58:10
