Pooling your financial resources with others

"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it" (Malachi 3:10, King James Version).

As we know, part of Christian finances and practicing good stewardship over what God has blessed us with is helping others. One way to do this, and to become involved in a Christian financial community, is to join one of the many Christian financial coops around the country. These coops manifest themselves as credit unions, ministries and even health care coops. And because you are contributing in a community that you know shares your values, you can feel good about what comes of it.

What are Christian financial coops?

There are many different versions of Christian financial coops. Some are designed to provide relief to those in emergency situations. Others are involved with sharing resources to help each other accomplish lofty goals, such as missionary service. The idea is that you pay a certain membership fee into the coop, and then all of the money donated is put into some sort of trust or account that yields interest. This way, as the funds grow, they are available to help the members of the coop.

Different types of Christian financial coops

There are many different Christian financial coops available. From evangelical credit unions to health coops that can help you pay for many health expenses, there are financial communities set up for Christians around the country. There are even investing coops where Christians pool their resources to buy shares in ethical companies and then share out the rewards.

However, it is important to note that there are some unscrupulous charlatans who will try to trick you into joining bogus Christian financial coops. Check with your congregational leader and do your research before commiting resources to any Christian financial endeavor.
