Importance of Christian Unity

Unity among Christians is perhaps the most important issue that the body of Christ needs to hear in our modern day. It is the fundamental element in reaching the world with the gospel before Jesus Christ returns. As the body of Christ we must get over the issues that create division within the church! If the Christian church was united it would be much better equipped to fight serious issues today that destroy our world; Issues that have slowly become worse and worse. It is my hearts ambition to see the church united in love, and working together to reaching our lost and dying world with the grace of God.

In order for Unity to take place in the body of Christ, we have to get over the divisions that separate the church. I personally think it's sad that many churches do not want to work with each other, mostly on part of some small differences in the understanding of our Bible. To my understanding there is at least one thing in the bible that can not be misunderstood, and that is that God is love! The bible did not say that God has love, but that He is love! It's because of Gods love that we have been saved in the first place, and He commands us to love our brothers and sisters. God strongly desires for us to be first untied to Christ, then God the Father through Him, and then of course each other!

Unity is power, and if Christians from all different kinds of churches came together in brotherly love it would be much easier to build the kingdom of God. It's almost as if secularism has taken over the very land that was founded on God many years ago. Recently I was visiting a city on the west coast and thousands of people were celebrating gay pride. It was on a Sunday, and I did not see the church doing anything about it. I thought to my self, "What would Jesus and the apostles do if they were here"? Or, "What can the church today do about it"? Surly if all the churches came together in a protest it would be made clear that God dose not tolerate it. Also to let them know that God loves them, and the same Jesus that saved us is there for them too, so if they chose. Otherwise, If it was not for believers in the area I am sure it would be no different when God wanted to destroy Sodom and Gomorra century's ago!

Christ is the head of the church and it is the bride of Christ, it only makes sense that we should summit to him. There are so many scriptures that talk about love and unity but my favorite is in the passage from John 17:20-23. "May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me." God has impressed on my heart that unity in the body of Christ is the most important issue the church needs to hear today. May God build unity in the church and the world be reached for the glory of God, Amen!

Ty, good hub.

I want to tell you that Unity can only be accomplished in true apostolic faiths. Some churches are infected with false preachings and those who want to bring the doctorine down (your example of gay marriages). We connot accept this mentality.

More important at this point in history is to be prepaired for Jesus to come again, and how to identify the anti christ(who will appear to be like Christ).

Remember this because it is very important- Jesus never touches the earth at his second coming. If someone is healing and doing "great works" at any point from here forward, it is not Jesus. We are to meet in the sky.

The next time Jesus comes, He is not to perform mirracles- He will take us home.

Keep up the good work

Thanks for you comment sooner then later, I hope that he does not come back too soon though. I have lots of unsaved family that have not found Him yet. I hope there is still time because for many people it takes time, before God calls them. I did not get saved until I was 22, before I broke down in tears and compleatly was a changed man.

About the unity... Yes I agree that there are churches out there that don't got it, they are really far from the kingdom of God. When you get right down to it though, as long as you have saving faith then they are still brothers and sisters. It up to us to correct and teach and build understanding and truth, just like Paul did!!

Yes, you are correct- they are our brothers and sisters in Christ. We are told that we are accountable for what we know, so I know too much to be in the wrong faith at this point.

Like you, I was not saved right away. I am proud of you. Keep praying for your familly, they will come around. Jesus calls very strongly at the end times.

Hi Ty!

So what do you think keeps the Body from uniting? Do you think pride may be the leading cause? I have to say that amongst our churches in my area, the youth seem pretty united but the Sr Pastors keep to their own churches. There has been some great testimonies about the Holy Spirit really moving amongst the youth.

As you say, lack of understanding exists between denominations. There was a postcard flyer for a church near us that came in the mail that said "no weird stuff" across the top after promoting all they had to offer. Unfortunately there are too many I think who fear a move of the Holy Spirit and therefore, He truly is not welcome. For too many, church becomes a social venue and a ritual and how grievous is that! It has to grieve the heart of God since there is so much more available to us....

Whether we are dealing with other believers or the world, we are told to "keep the bond of peace," and "to be peacemakers." Then there is the scripture about the kingdom of God suffering violence and how it has to be taken by force (although we aren't in a battle of flesh and blood - even if it manifests as such - and our weapons of war are mighty for pulling down strongholds.....)

LET US PRAY and intercede as never before since this is truly key.

Blessings!

Oh, and glad to hear you are starting your own business and doing well! :)

Hi Christine, sorry for the late reply. Yes I think pride has lots to do with it. Sr Pastor of my church has a very hard time with many other churches and wants nothing to do with them unless they are world leading churches. He's part of the problem because He just wants to build another denomination. On the other had his son, is all for the kingdom and reaching the city in every way possible. It has to be a sin problem though because sin is missing the mark of God. We have missed the mark! My guess is people are so concerned for what they want, and not what God wants!! Everyone wants there own way, and to choose the church they like best even if it means moving from church to church every time there is something they don't like.

I think there is a great move of God with the youth in your area because they are open to what God wants! They just want God! Who cares about this church or that church. God will move where he is welcome! There must be much truth in the verse, Mark 10:15 "I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it."

Anyway, thanks for the comment and I shall talk to you soon.

Contention causes revival to cease, but unity brings down the POWER! I appreciate your call for unity:.)
