Christina's father, Robert W. Applegate, was a record producer and record company executive. Her mother, Nancy Lee Priddy, was a singer and an actress. On October 20, 2001, Christina married longtime boyfriend Johnathon Schaech, in a small Palm Springs ceremony with family and close friends. On December 5, 2005, the publicists of Christina and Schaech confirmed that they had filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court and their divorce was finalized Aug. 10, 2007. Christina was the spokesperson in 2003 for the Lee National Denim Day fundraiser which raises millions of dollars for breast cancer education and research. Christina's mother is a breast cancer survivor and is now a strong supporter of cancer charities. Christina is a supporter of animal rights and PETA often funding the groups and taking action beside them. Applegate is close friends with actresses Cameron Diaz, Nicole Eggert, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston and actress/singer Jessica Simpson. She also studies jazz and dance.

Christina left school at 17 to pursue acting. From 1987 to 1997, she played Kelly Bundy on Married… with Children. From 1998 to 2000, she starred in her own sitcom, Jesse, on NBC. Applegate is to star in the 2007 comedy pilot for ABC, Samantha Who? Jean Smart, Jennifer Esposito, and Melissa McCarthy are set to co-star in the comedy about a 30-year-old psychiatrist who, after a hit-and-run accident, develops amnesia and has to rediscover her life, her relationships and herself.
