DANCING LIGHTS

It's Almost Here

Christmas 2009 is almost upon us. Are you ready for it?

I wrote this hub months ago, as you may notice fome the next paragraph. But now, it's not so funny. Christmas time is about to pounce on those of us who may not be prepared. Fortunately, it's a timely reminder for you. Please don't leave it till the last minute. Unless it really doesn't matter.

I have, on a number of occasions warned people, in January, that Christmas is "just around the corner". I was being funny/silly, trying to get a smile from them. Better yet, a comment in reply. Usually it was something like, "don't say that, time goes too fast as it is". Hence this hub!

Are you preparing for this Christmas yet? What I am about to say, will prove to be sssooo obvious, yet we all (well most of us) make the mistake. Shopping for gifts you want to give to loved ones. It's pretty much too late for this Christmas! Then again, some of you who really leave it to the "very last second", you have a few weeks.

My wife made a decision a few years ago, to shop for Christmas throughout the year. This has the obvious advantage of planning, and reducing the impact of spending. You don't have to spend any more than usual. In fact, because of the lack of urgency, you can hold off till things come on sale, or pick up real bargains as you find them. This year though, that went out the window a bit. We did start relatively early, but not early enough. This will serve as a timely reminder for us as well.

Another thing that will be helpful is to make a list and a plan. A plan, so you know how much you will spend (in total, or per person). And a list, so that you will know who you will buy for, and what (type of) things you want to buy. As an example, if your family continues to grow, you may want to just buy for the children. Another idea may be that you can plan what you want to make yourself, and prepare the necessary materials (way) ahead of time.

It will be a lean christmas for many this year, due to the world economic situation. There will probably be many ample opportunity to give to those in need. Perhaps you are one who has never given to others outside of your circle of influence. Consider giving to a charity, or the like, that helps those people. Whether at home or overseas.

Merry Christmas.

lol

I must admit to having gotten completely overwhelmed in the past. I have pretty much given up on Christmas cards and just buy presents for a select few - or their kids instead if they have kids. Not sure I can think about 2009 just yet though.....

Just thought it would be appropriate to fore-warn others ahead of time. WAY ahead of time. :)
