A Christmas Story DVD is so much fun all year round. It takes me back to being a kid again. Staring at the displays in the Christmas windows with your eyes bugged out wishing that Santa would bring you everything in the window. A Christmas Story has always been my favorite Christmas flick. I know TBS shows it non stop through the Holiday Season, but it doesn't beat having the DVD. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I have watched that movie.

There is just so much magic during the holiday that I find myself wanting to get a head start to make the upcoming season the best it can be. Of course being with friends and family is truly at the heart of the celebration, food, laughter, love, joy and of course... gifts. While, I am all about the good ole fashioned country Christmas, at the same time, growing up there was always something that I wanted but never got.

In 1938, the Red Ryder BB Gun was the toy to have. While today guns, even bb guns are most certianly not toys. It doesn't mean that owing this classic isn't worth it's place on the wall. It has a rear adjustable sight, 650 shot capacity and 195 yard range. But most of all it comes with the memories of your childhood.

Give Grandpa the gift of his childhood. The Red Ryder 200 model range air riffle. I am sure that he will light up with a joy he hasn't felt before since then.

Oh, and the lamp, the leg lamp. Hilarious I tell ya! "Fradgeele' , "no that's fragile" "yeah sure whatever." I was so ecstatic to find it on Amazon, that I have now brought it to you. I know, it certainly isn't the most practical gift to give a person, but I know it will make you smile. So, the Leg Lamp is number 2 on my list of best holiday gifts.

Gift Cards are fail proof especially if you load them up with enough money to actually buy something cool. ~That was not a marketing attempt to get you to buy a more expensive gift card. I make the same amount no matter how much you put on it.~ But it is definitely nice to be able to purchase something that you really want or just hold on to it until everything goes on sale after Christmas so you can get more stuff. 

You don't have to worry about buying the right size, or the right game for the right gaming console.  They make great stocking stuffers and are perfect for when you forgot someone on your list or when someone shows up unexpectedly.

American Express Gift Cards:

• The American Express gift card can be used nearly everywhere American Express cards are accepted in the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

• American Express is no longer shipping Gift Cards to the states of CT, HI, NH, and VT. Based upon legislation in these four states, it is cost-prohibitive for American Express to sell our Gift Cards.

• American Express gift cards do not have an expiration date however, the balance must be used within 12 months of the purchase date to avoid a service fee of $2.00 a month. Gift Cards also make excellent stocking stuffers, are a great back up plan just in case you forgot someone on your list plus everyone likes to have a little flexibility when it comes to buying something you want. So gift cards are # 3 on my list of best gifts.

Of course I have to start off with the plain old red and white stocking. Decorating you own stockings was a tradition in my home. Personalizing our stockings wasn't just because my parents have four kids on a budget. We got them because personalizing our stockings and marking the year was important to us. The next year, we would always pull out our old stockings and see just how ridiculous it looks compared to the new year. Either way, they make great keep sakes in the years to come.

Now, we can't have Christmas without the Christmas lights. Tell me if this has happened to you. You take out your Christmas lights and they're a tangled mess or there is one bulb that is burnt out so you have to go through the entire strand to find the broken light? After a while I just started buying new lights or better yet rope lights.

I think untangling lights it is about the only thing I did not look forward to. Decorating the home with lights is great fun, throw Santa Clause on the roof top, a couple reindeer in the yard and your home has suddenly been transformed into the North Pole. Gnomes suddenly transform into elves and people start to feel nostalgic.

True, energy conservation has been on the minds of people for the last few years or so and the neighborhood Christmas light show has taken a backstage to the energy bill. Luckily, they make LED lights.

LED lights use 90% less energy, last longer and are 100x brighter than the traditional lights. The colors really pop on these. Last year, the glow of the LED lights on houses really stood out from the rest and as a person who just cannot resist a beautiful sight, even homes humbly decorated with LED lights held me captive until out of site.

So, let's step it up a notch, get rid of those old Christmas light strings, save energy and literally brighten up the season with LED Christmas lights.

Well, ya gotta have a tree. Not every Christmas was my family able to afford a lot of gifts, put up holiday lights or even stuff the stockings but one thing we always had was a Christmas tree. How happy we were if we were able to get a real Christmas tree one year but if not we always had our artificial tree. One year after I had already moved out and started my own family, (I had a run in with some hard times and couldn't afford a tree) my mother had kept our tree and she gave it to me for my family and it turned out to be one the best Christmases ever!

Sure, I understand that artificial trees doesn't smell like a real pine or spruce tree and often times they were much smaller than a real one but we have come a long ways since the "fake" looking Christmas trees of our yesteryear! Forget about the Charlie Brown Christmas tree (though I have had quite a few of them in my lifetime) now we have "real" life like artificial trees that reach 10' high, come pre-lighted, from full life like trees to contemporary white and sparkling beautiful wonders and of course, mini trees.

Like I said, I am all about the good ole fashioned Country Christmas and cutting or picking our your own real Christmas tree will always be part of some of our traditions but let's face it. After so many years of cleaning up the mess left behind...

No more cleaning up pine needles, remembering to water it, fire hazards etc... So you never have to worry about it during holiday travel; you don't have to find a place to dispose of it, you don't have to worry about your pets eating pine needles, clogging the vacuum cleaner and sticky tree sap. It just makes more sense.
