Swedes can now have their weddings “Las Vegas” style by having drive-in weddings with gospel choir and Elvis soundtrack.

The Church of Sweden wants to go with the modern ways and will offer this drive-in-weddings option at a car rally next month to make marriages easy for couples.

The Swedes are unfazed with the rising fuel prices, nearly 36 couples have applied to get wedding this way at the upcoming rally in Vasteras in central Sweden according to the priest Jerker Asterlund.

Mr. Asterlund created this novel drive-in weddings idea. But unfortunately, he won't get any medals from the Vatican.

Mr. Asterlund told Reuters.

"Weddings are getting more and more commercialized and that is not something we have any interest in. We would like to make things simpler and more down to earth when people take the plunge and get married,"

"This is not just for fun, but also a way for the Church of Sweden to show we can take part in celebration and happiness and not just in crisis and catastrophes,"

The wedding will be carried out by 10 priests and the ceremony will last for seven minutes. It will also have a gospel choir and a priest singing Elvis tunes according to Mr. Asterlund.

They could have at least kept the music local by having Abba music at the weddings.

The wedding event at the rally will boast a huge red, neon sign just like the Las Vegas Casinos to make it convenient for couples to find it at the large rally.

The article doesn’t say whether the Church of Sweden will run this drive-in wedding ceremony after the rally event. I hope they keep it a one-time event.

Whew! A whole seven minute ceremony! Why even bother? With that much of a commitment, they'll need to install a divorce "hall" two blocks over.

I guess it beats spending tens-of-thousands and then still ending up in divorce court.

I don't know where you always find the most amusing material for you hubs. Another good one regards Zsuzsy

Zsuzsy, well said, just like the trivial ceremony, their relationship will end up being trivial. Having a marriage in front of family and friends is an unique experience, I don't think others can get that feeling.

Why even bother doing something that tacky. Just get the papers signed.

Cool!

Start the day getting married at the wedding drive in! Hit the drive in Mc Donalds and then finish off at a drive in movie! sounds fun, but also very un- environmentally friendly!!

This hub brought forth memory of Dr. Robert H. Schuller who in 1955 rented Orange Drive-in theatre where he conducted Sunday services from the roof of the snack bar. Many people laughed and poked fun at him. The growth over the years dictated the decision to build the internationally acclaimed Crystal Cathedral ministries and televised 'Hour of Power' in Garden Grove, CA having a congregation of over 10,000 members today.
