Cigarette Smoking Pros and Cons of Today
70Cigarette Smoking Pros and Cons You Can Identify With
As strange as it may sound now, smoking used to be socially acceptable. In fact, there were times in the American past that you absolutely had to smoke to fit in. You could not be a part of the ‘in crowd’ if you were not a smoker. I have even heard my grandmother refer to people who did not smoke in the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s as somehow different or strange. So, you were an outcast if you did not smoke.
My how times have changed; you can’t even talk about smoking to a non-smoker without getting the evil eye. Today smokers are people we tolerate. We constantly ask them when they are quitting or why they started smoking in the first place. In today’s world you are considered off the wall if you partake in smoking!
As you can probably guess, the pros
of smoking have long since passed.
I used to smoke. I started when I was
young. I have been a chain-smoker my
whole life. In fact, if you asked me if
oxygen or smoking was more important to me, I would have told you that smoking
was my life-line. It’s so strange for me
to see that in print now; I was so addicted.
When I decided to quit smoking, it
was a major life decision for me. Afterall, what was I going to do at break
time now? What would I do when there was a major crisis anymore? I loved
smoking, I thought it made me look cool, perhaps even a little sexy...
Seriously, I used to think I would cease to exist if I did not have my trust
cancer sticks near by to save me from all of life’s woes.
One day, I found the power to quit. I was nervous about the proposition because
I had loaded down the task with a bunch of must haves. I felt the more the program conformed to my
expectations on the front end, the more likely I would succeed on the back end. I wanted to quit smoking so badly.
You see, I just had to quit smoking, both of my parents had died horrible cancer related deaths from a lifetime of smoking cigarettes. And, now, worst of all, my teenage kids were starting to see smoking as something they should try. They thought it looked ‘cool’. I had to act fast!
I came across a product I had not seen before anywhere else. It looked great, but I needed to make sure I would not relapse....ever.
Some of my absolute must haves were:
It had to be a quick solution.
I did not want to buy medication and pills or patches or chew that awful gum.
I did not want to avoid social occasions for fear of a relapse.
I did not want to follow any special diet or take any supplements.
I did not want to deal with hunger. I was terrified of weight gain.
And the most difficult of all, I did not want to have a sense of loss when I
quit.
Cigarette smoking pros and cons had reached an
intersection and I was deciding it was all cons. I needed the big guns.
Quiting Smoking is only difficult if you don't know how. Thankfully I know how!
