A Summary of CinemaNow Reviews From Various Sources
67Buy Movies Online
More recent reviews of CinemaNow seem to be more positive than later reviews suggesting that this service has improved over time. The reviews are mixed when it comes to the amount of content available on CinemaNow. Some reviewers found the content to be limited especially for those who opted for the free or subscription options. However, other reviewers found the amount of offbeat selections to be a welcomed change and still others noted the amount of content available for free was substantial. When it came to cons the reviewers seemed in agreement that the subscription options were too complicated and the picture quality was poor.
CNET - The editors of CNET were not overly impressed with CinemaNow giving the service a rating of just 2.5 out of five possible stars. For this service the editors found the cons far outweighed the pros and CinemaNow is not quite matching up to its direct competitors. The editors of CNET were impressed with the fact that CNET offered rentals at a low price and included recent movie titles. They also thought the ability to download a movie and watch it within a matter of minutes was a pro. However, the editors noted that similar services offered a more extensive selection of movie titles and higher bit rates. Other cons for CinemaNow included the fact that DVDs could not be burned for the purpose of viewing them on a DVD player. Other notable cons include the fact that the website, at the time the review was written, does not work with Macs and movies cannot be downloaded to portable devices.
TopTenReviews.com - In this review of CinemaNOw the editors were quite pleased with the service giving the service a four out of four rating in the categories of movie selection as well as ease of use. They also gave a rating of three out of four in help/support and dubbed the service a, "TopTenREVIEWS Gold Award," winner. The editors were very impressed with the selection of over 4000 available titles from Disney, Microsoft, MGM, Miramax, NBC Universal, 20th Century Fox, ABC News and Vivid Video. The TopTenReviews.com review seems to be more current than the CNET review and claims CinemaNow allows users to burn DVDS for playback on DVD players and the service is compatible with some portable media players including Microsoft products. Despite the lower rating for help/support the editors were generally pleased with the inclusion of a FAQ page and a link to email questions. However, they would prefer to see the addition of telephone or chat support to provide live answers to questions. The one downside noted by the editors is a pricey montly membership fee. They also caution against allowing children to use the website before parental controls are set because of the inclusion of adult content.
PCMAG.com - The editors of PCMAG.com gave CinemaNow a four out of five rating. However, in reading through the review for this service this rating does not seem accurate. The pros they listed included the ability to burn DVDs and a fair amount of content available for free. HOwever, they noted despite the agreements between CinemaNow and major movie studios the free content came largely from independent sources. The reviewers were not impressed with the picture quality or content selection that came with free and subscription content. They also noted that the membership options were confusion. CinemaNow includes free, subscription, rent, buy and burn to DVD options for viewing content which can make it difficult for users to decide which option is best for them.
Epinions.com - The user gets the opportunity to sound off on Epinions.com and the majority of users were not at all impressed with CinemaNow. In fairness it must be noted that many of these reviews are outdated and there is only a small sampling of user reviews. However, four out of the six users gave the service a rating of just one out of five. Users were generally not impressed with the complicated subscription services, lack of content and poor quality. Poor customer service was also noted in the user reviews. The users who found something positive to say about CinemaNow enjoyed the variety of content on the website and the inclusion of more offbeat selections.
