Clairol Natural Instincts Review

Before today, I went to a local beauty school to have my hair highlighted on a regular basis. At half of the normal cost of salons, what could go wrong?

Well, the last time I had it done, it was too bright. I didn't like it all. I am fair skinned so it really didn't look all that bad, I just wasn't used to seeing myself with such bright hair color since being a child.

So today I took matters into my own hands and decided I was going to color my own hair. I looked for something that was non-permanent, just in case it didn't look good I knew it could be washed out, eventually.

I decided on Clairol Natural Instincts in the new Champagne Indulgence Collection. I was pleasantly surprised! I loved it! It gave my hair a soft healthy feel with a nice shimmer. It totally toned down that bright brassy color. This is the way I will color my hair from here on out.

The best part is this product does not contain harsh chemicals like bleach and ammonia that damages hair.

Hey Cayenne! I'm curious: Which color did you use and what is your natural hair color? I'm a dark blonde and I want to use the coolest shade (Champagne Sparkle) but I'm afraid it will come out too dark or even greenish...

Hey Korkz! My hair is a dark blonde too since I do not go and stay out in the sun. My highlights were REAL bright and it toned it down. I've posted an after for you to see above. Regretfully, I did not take a before. I hated it!

The color I used was "Champagne on Ice." Five minutes on roots, then five on entire hair. Next time I will try it for 10 minutes. I was a little gun-shy since I've never colored my own hair before.

I've been using "Natural Instincts" for several years. My mom was a hairdresser and I don't care for permanent hair coloring and the hassle of retouching. This not only covers my gray, but it really brings out the reds in my hair. Has to be redone ever 4-6 weeks. I watch for it on sale and stock up. I also mix at least two colors to make it more natural. I use the auburn and brown shades (there are several in each) and mix them equally. If it's a little too much red, I tone it down the next time. Good idea to keep a 3x5 notecard of what you did each time so you can repeat it if you are getting into the mad scientist hair colorist category.

Overall, this is a very good haircolor for a FRACTION of what you will pay in a salon. One of my best compliments was when one of new young associates complimented me on the "most beautiful shade of red" in my hair. As the ads used to say, "Only her hairdresser knows for sure!"

GREAT HUB--very good info and appreciate the instructions, pictures and video in this. Very nice work.

Thanks so much Dink! I was so pleased with the results, I just had to do a Hub on it.
