Clairvoyant and psychic are synonyms in my book when it comes to the questionable field of giving advice based on extra sensory perception. Having been raised by a librarian who valued knowledge and science there are certainly a great deal of phenomena that can not be explained by current science. However, when none or very little of what a psychic or clairvoyant claims to do can be duplicated in lab settings or explained via modern science I have a hard time believing that it can be true.

The business of clairvoyant psychic readings is huge. If you look online for either clairvoyant or psychic by itself you get over a million hits for either word. Even if you narrow it down to your own area you still will get a few thousand hits. I got three thousand four hundred seventy hits (3470) for “clairvoyant canton Ohio”.

For “psychic canton Ohio” there were sixteen thousand hits (16,000). Canton, Ohio is a relatively small town an hour south of Cleveland and the metro area not including Akron probably has maybe fifty thousand (50,000) people. With the results for “psychic canton ohio” there were three from the Yellow Pages that had physical studios that you could go to directly for in person readings.

In the Canton, Ohio area there is an organization called Angels in the Valley. It is a Holistic Teaching Center. They also organize and hold a variety of Psychic Fairs once a month at local hotels. These fairs run for two days and at their Holistic Psychic Fair in May of 2009 they had fifteen psychics available for readings, a variety of seminars and a multitude of new age products for sale. Psychometry is a term that I had not come across in my research. According to Wikipedia, psychometry refers to the ability to obtain information about a person by making actual contact with an object that the person owned or used. It is considered to be a form of extra sensory perception by the adherents to the psychic world. The term has been replaced by the phrase “token object reading” to avoid confusion with the new branch of psychology called “Psychometrics”.

The definition for clairvoyance is the ability to gain or have information about a person, object, event or location through a means other than normal human senses. Clairvoyance has never been scientifically proven and is a section of study under the paranormal or parapsychology disciplines. When I typed in “Clairvoyant” one of the results was for Ann George. Her website is titled Ann George Psychic, Clairvoyant Tarot Reader, and Spiritual consultant. She offers Candles, Tarot, Spiritual Healing, Psychic Readings and a Mystic Store. Please note that her site has a warning that all sales are final and they accept no returns.

It is interesting to note that the candles that Ann George sells are poured at specific times like the Spring Equinox or at a certain phase of the moon. This means that there are a finite number of candles and therefore a premium can be charged for each type. The “Success” candle has a price of forty ($40) dollars and the Spring Equinox candle was $26.95. All candles ship free in the continental United States. I guess it comes down to what terminology the individual practitioner wants to use for their business. “Psychic” has had negative connotations, but “clairvoyant” does not seem as bad.
