Classic Rock Pt. 2
56
Yes, yes--here it is. Part two of the classic rock hub! The final few bands on my favorites list. As I have said before, I had to narrow the list down quite a bit to fit it on a hub. Even using two hubs to do it, I still had to leave out a lot of great bands.
I also couldn't put up a video of every great song released by each band, either. I had to limit that to one or two. What I'm saying is, if there is a band missing or a great song not shown, it isn't always because I don't like them. I just picked my own personal best of the best.
Also, a little disclaimer of sorts I will include on all my music hubs--
I am not going to repeat music. If a band is featured on this hub, that band won't be on another hub too. So if you don't see your favorites on this hub, keep in mind they may make an appearance later on. Just check back for more. :)
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Who wouldn't have Lynyrd Skynyrd on their classic rock favorites list? I certainly do. Skynyrd has been around since 1970 and experienced highs with chart toppers and sold out shows and lows with the death of lead singer Ronnie Van Zant in 1977.
They've had a string of hits including Gimmie Three Steps, Tuesday's Gone, That Smell and the unforgettable rock anthems Free Bird and Sweet Home Alabama
After a plane crash on October 20, 1977 took the life of the band's lead singer, the group disbanded. They came back together in 1979 to preform Free Bird at volunteer concert.
In 1987, Ronnie Van Zant's younger brother Johnny became the bands new lead singer, and along with a few other band mate changes, the reconstructed Skynyrd is still going strong. They still go on tours on a fairly regular basis.
my favorite- Baba O' Reilly
The Who
Definitly one of my favorite bands. I love The Who. I discovered them rather late in life, sadly. As with all on this list, they've had their share of hit songs and albums and some greats that are still favorites today.
The Who is an English rock band that formed in 1964 and included Kieth Moon, Roger Daltry, Pete Townshend and John Entwhistle
Some of their most well known singles include Who Are You, My Generation and I Can't Explain among others.
Following the death of Keith Moon in 1978 and the discovery that Pete Townshend was fighting a Heroin addiction in 1982, the band slightly disbanded and stopped touring briefly. They had a couple reunions in the eighties and nineties and have been touring rather frequently around the world since 2006.
They were named by Q magazine as one of the '50 Bands to See Before You Die'
Back In Black
AC/DC
Another band that I would love to see in concert! Call me crazy, but I like the screamy voice of Brian Johnson and the crazy school boy outfits of Angus Young.
The band formed in Sydney in 1973 and though they are classified as hard rock, they are considered to be the pioneers of heavy metal. Their bestselling album, Back In Black was released in 1980, shortly after the death of former lead singer, Bon Scott.
To date, the album has sold upwards of 45 million copies worldwide, 22 million copies in the US alone. It included the hits Hell's Bells, You Shook Me All Night Long and the title track.
Van Halen
Van Halen has topped my list of favorite bands for quite a while. I'm a huge Eddie fan. As for David lee Roth vs Sammy Hagar...well...that's a secret ;)
If i put up a video for every Van Halen song I wanted to include, this hub would full of nothing but that. So, I'll compromise a little and only include two.
Their list of hits includes songs like Hot For Teacher, Panama, Dreams, When It's Love, and Runnin' With the Devil.
The band has had hits with both of their lead singers. David Lee Roth, who was with the band from 1974 until he left the band in 1985, was on board for Van Halen, Van Halen II, Women and Children First, Fair Warning, Driver Down and 1984
Sammy hagar, lead singer from 1985 until he was fired/quit in 1996, was a part of such albums as 5150, OU812, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge and Balance
Both Hagar and Roth went on to have short lived solo careers and both would eventually reunite with the band. Currently Van Halen is working with Roth once again.
Bad Company
Ok...so maybe this one is a little bit of a shout out to a favorite hubber as well as a favorite band. But c'mon, how could I not include BadCo? ;)
Once again, I have to thank my dad for introducing them to me. Bad Company is one of his favorite bands and 10 from 6 has become one of my favorite albums.
Formed in 1973, the band released 12 albums between 1974 and 1996, as well as 3 live albums and 2 compilation albums.
Some of their hits include Bad Company, Feel Like Makin' Love and Can't Get Enough
Great Video
Queen
Queen came together in London in 1970. Their debut album was released in 1973 and dubbed 'superb' by Rolling Stone magazine.
In 1991, lead vocalist Freddie Mercury died from bronchial pneumonia, a complication of AIDS.
Following his death, the group never officially disbanded and the remaining members continue to work on various projects.
Their hit list is extensive and full of songs known and sung around the world. Few can say they don't know at least the first few bars and the chorus to We Will Rock You or We Are The Champions.
They had amazing success in the two decades they were together before Mercury's passing.
The list of hits goes on to include such greats as Bohemian Rhapsody, You're My Best Friend, Fat Bottomed Girls, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Under Pressure, Another One Bites The Dust and I Want It All
Dire Straits
Dire Straits was a British rock band formed in 1977 by vocalist and lead guitarist Mark Knopfler and his younger brother David. The band name was chosen based on the bands poor financial situation, which quickly changed for the better after the release of thier first worldwide smash single Sultans of Swing.
They went on to produce a string of hits through the years including Romeo and Juliet and Money For Nothing which was the first music video played on MTV in Britain.
After a hiatus from 1987-1990 in which Knopfler worked on solo projects, the group reunited in 1991 and released a new album. Knopfler quietly dissolved the band again in 1995. As of yet, there are no more reunions scheduled.
Rolling Stones
An English rock band formed in 1962, currently comprised of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood, the Rolling Stones are about as iconic as it gets. From Jaggers notable voice to his on stage strutting to Richards' trademark cigarette and bandana, The Stones are easily recognized worldwide.
Entering the US during the 60's British Invasion, The Rolling Stones went on to release 24 studio albums and sell more than 200 million albums world wide.
Their hitlist is extensive and includes such famous tunes as:
Jumpin' Jack Flash, Brown Sugar, Angie, Beast of Burden, (I Can't get No) Satisfaction, Wild Horses, Time Is On My Side, Start Me Up and Sympathy For The Devil

So, Janetta ... will there be a Part III or is this it? If it is "it" it's still a very comprehensive list. Bravo!! I was really glad to see Bad Company made your list -- I have always thought Paul Rogers had one of the sexiest voices in rock. And Dire Straights is another good addition.
Another musical trip back to our formative years. LOVED IT! MM
