Classic... Things
67There are people out there who don't appreciate the classic things. Classic rock, classical music, classic movies, classic games. Classic in general. Personally, I love classic things. Without these timeles masterpieces other, more modern things, would be nonexistent. Nada. Why don't people appreciate these? I don't know. But I'll explain why they should.
First, what is classic?
clas-sic; (klas-ik) adj; of the first or highest quality, class, or rank; serving as a standard, model, or guide
That's the dictionary.com definition. But that doesn't cover "classic" at all.
I'll give some examples of what I believe to be classic things. Van Halen, Guns N' Roses, Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones, and Metallica. All Charlie Chaplin movies, most Alfred Hitchcock movies, the original Star Wars movies, most John Wayne movies. Motzart, Tchaikovsky, Bethoven, Vivaldi. Pong, Pac-Man, Super Mario, Galaga, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid. Huckleberry Finn, most of Shakespeare, the Grapes of Wrath, Beowulf, the Odyssey.
Know what these things have in common? C'mon? You can't guess? They have all influenced their genra in some way. And everyone has heard of them. These are not only famous, but they are major things. Why are they the best? Well, it's because they were the first. No one was able to say, "Hey, you guys copied us!" These are the great things.
Classic is where the bar started. Sometimes, the bar falls. Sometimes, it rises. But classic is always one of the best points. For example, classic rock was the best. I (personally) believe the musical standard dropped. Not much, but it did. Classic rock was so much better than the stuff today. Van Halen? Pink Floyd? I'm sorry, but Blink 182 falls short of the mark by about a mile. Emo? Not even close to punk. Punk was cool. Emo is just... Emo. Not a good thing. At least punk people were tough. Emo people sit there and cry. Most emo people I know don't even cut themselves. But that's a different article (READ IT).
Now here comes the biggie. Why (read that article too, it really raises some questions - pun intended) do people not give a rat's left eyeball? Because. The quality today is slipping, and most people don't care what happened so long ago. Perhaps it's because America is trying to keep its image fresh and new. For example, I said to my friend,
"Have you ever heard the song 'Hot for Teacher,' by Van Halen?"
"Van Halen? Those guys are old. They're no good."
I was dumbfounded. Why did he not like Van Halen? How could he NOT?! The incredible skill employed by Eddie Van Halen on the guitar is just... undeniable. Every time I hear one of his guitar solos, I get a chill.
Music today... I once heard a "song." It was called "I Get Money." And thoe were the only words in the song. "I get money, I get money, I- I- I get money." 'S it. Why do people like that cRAP? (haha... can't spell crap without rap.)
My only consolation is that history is bound to repeat itself.

Well, never thought I'd see Beethoven and Donkey Kong in the same sentence, both described as "classic." BUT gotta give it to you...your logic makes sense! KUDOS to truly innovative thinking...you got yourself some great brain waves there!
Thanks much you two! I'm dumbfounded too, MrMarmalade.
And desert blondie, thanks much for the compliment on the mental abilities! And yes, I'm one of the few people I know who could even THINK about Donkey Kong and Beethoven in the same sentence, lol. xD
Amen. Rap and Emo are terrible and yet the market is so big for it, I'll never understand it. Long Live Rock!
NICE ONE! I LIKE IT!
