The dance of celestial nymphs, classical Khmer dance is the greatest link between the ancient Angkor civilization and contemporary times

The Khmer empire (Cambodia today) was the largest continuous Empire of South East Asia. In the latest centuries it has been reduced to a tiny territory after being ruled over by Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. There are only rests of this civilization thorugh its gigantic cities like Angkor Wat.

Already AD100 the Kingdom of Funan, part of what will become the Khmer Empire, was established by the legendary Indian brahmin, Kambu. The peaceful settlement of Indian traders begins the process of Indianization of Cambodia.

During the formation of the empire, Khmer had also intensive cultural, political, and trade relations with Java.
