What Is Clean Room Data Recovery?

With more companies specializing in data recovery services, one particular aspect that has importance is what type of facility are you sending your hard drives into for that special data recovery.

There are facilities that don't treat hard drives with the most care when they are trying to recover your data, however they bill you like they do.  There are also recovery methods and facilities that take extraordinary precautions with your hard drive and data.  These facilities employ clean room data recovery methods.

What Are Data Recovery Clean Rooms?

Data recovery clean rooms are specialized rooms that are designed to control the amount of dust and other contaminates in the air.  One of the most utilized methods of a clean room is to use high tech filters, however there are also other methods used to control contaminates that are brought into the room by employees or products.

By using specialized air filters to circulate and control the air flowing through the room, particulates like dust and microbes are filtered constantly.  There are also air flow tables and workstations similar to chemistry labs that filter the air around the immediate workstation or product that is being worked on.

Usually the employees enter the clean room through an airlock chamber after donning protective equipment.  They also must wear protective breathing equipment and clothing while inside the room.  Some of the breathing equipment ranges from a simple respirator mask to an air supplied positive pressure breathing device.

There are several different types of clean rooms.  Each clean room is ranked using different numbers to signify the number of particles that each room is allowed to have.  For example, a Class 1 clean room should not exceed 1000 particles per cubic meter.

Why Do You Need A Clean Room For Your Data Recovery?

The main reason you should use a clean room for your data recovery is because of the reduced chances of additional damage or contamination to an already defective or damaged hard drive.  Clean rooms are designed to prevent static discharges and dust contamination, both of which can cause catastrophic damage to the internal components of a hard drive.

As the technology of hard drives continue to increase each day, more and more data is being packed onto the hard drive which is making it more difficult to safely recover the data without using a clean room.

Another reason to use a clean room data recovery service is because most hard drive manufacturers will void the warranty on their products if anyone other than themselves or a licensed agent.  Usually those licensed agents have clean room facilities.

Your data recovery is critical enough for you to be considering a clean room facility.  Your data recovery performance and product warranties are both worth it.
