How to make cleaning the house more enjoyable

Spring is just around the corner and that means it’s time to open the windows and air out the house! Of course it’s always nice to have a nice clean fresh house to enjoy, but no one really likes to do the cleaning, so here are a few tips to make it a little more fun.

1. Wear a tiara/crown – I’m not kidding. Really. Every time you pass a mirror while you mop or vacuum you’ll smile. You are the queen/king of your domain are you not? Have a little fun with it. I suggest a very sparkly one. I find that the more I sparkle, the more my house sparkles! My neighbors probably think I’m nuts when I carry the garbage out, but that sort of adds to the fun.

2. Turn the music up – It’s far more fun to bop around the house to fun music then work silently. I find that I get moving to the beat and actually get things done faster. Make a special play list on your iPod or burn a special CD. Pop that baby in and dust like a madman (or woman).

3. Try a new product – You might not want to do it every time you clean, but trying something new can liven things up a bit. I remember the first time I used one of the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. Not only did I discovered that they were in fact magic, I wanted to clean everything I could get to. Simple things really can make you happy!

4. Make a list – Note all the things that need to get done. Mark each one off as you complete the task. There is great satisfaction in crossing something off a list. It’s an instant sense of completion. For added fun you could make a chore chart. I suppose these are more commonly used for children, but why not mark off a chore you’ve just done with a star sticker?

5. Reward yourself – It can be something little, like a cookie or candy bar. It can be something special for the house, maybe a new candle or throw pillow. It can be a little indulgent, perhaps a manicure to buff those pretty little nails after a good scrubbing session. What ever it might be, having a reward to look forward to makes you want to finish the project.
