Clifford Olson, born January 1st 1940 in Vancouver, is a Canadian serial killer who has confessed to killing 11 people in the early 1980s; the victims were aged between 9 and 18. Olson is known as a 'atypical' serial killer because of his willingness to target victims of both gender. Olsen's first victim was 12 year old Christine Weller of British Columbia who was abducted on 17th November 1980; her body was found on Christmas day strangled with a belt and stabbed several times. A few months later, in April 1981, 13 year old Colleen Daignult went missing; it was to five months before her body was found. In the meantime, between Colleen's abduction and the discovery of her body, Olson killed 3 more times. The victims were 16 year old male Daryn Johnsrude, 16 year old Sandra Wolfsteiner, and 13 year old Ada Court.

Olson's murders became even more frequent and their were six further victims in just one month, July 1981. The first of these victims was 9 year old Simon Partington who was abducted, raped, and strangled on 2nd July. The next victim was 14 year old Judy Kozma from New Westminster who was raped and strangled on 9th July, her body was not discovered until 25th July near to the Weaver Lake. Two days before the body of Judy Kozma was discovered, 15 year old Raymond King Jr. was abducted, raped, and bludgeoned to death. On the next day, 24th July, 18 year old German tourist Sigrun Arnd was raped and bludgeoned. Two more victims followed with 15 year old Terri Lynn Carson being raped and strangled and 17 year old Louise Chartland dying on 30th July. Chartland was to be the final known Olson victim.

Olson was finally caught on 12th August 1981 on the suspicion of two attempted abductions, and on 25th August he was charged with the murder of 14 year old Judy Kozma. He subsequently reached a deal with authorities that would cause controversy in Canada, agreeing to confess to all 11 murders and show police the location of the remaining missing bodies in return for $10,000 being given to his wife for each victim. His wife subsequently received payment of $100,000 and Olson cooperated fully with the police. Clifford Olson, who had lots of criminal history, pleaded guilty to 11 counts of murder and was given 11 concurrent life sentences to be served at Canada's most secure prison, the Special Handling Unit at Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines in Quebec. Olsen, now 69 years old, has applied and been rejected for parole, and is now allowed under Canadian law to apply for parole once every two years.
