An amazing natural high

Climbing is a natural high (no pun intended lol).

Seriously tho with indoor climbing walls at both climbing clubs and sports centers its a great way of overcoming a fear of heights.  Climbing in a safe place like that means you do not necessarily need to learn major skills such as using quick draws and nuts etc. There are a few basic knots that are vital to climbing unsupervised but such climbing centers will have instructors to teach those basic skills.  There are actually only 2 knots to learn, the figure of 8 knot being the harder of the two.

Climbing itself is not competitive so there is no pressure to climb tough roots and tends to only be competitive in the sense of wanting to see improvements in strength and stamina.

There are even out door places that offer the same level of safety and security as a climbing center but with the beauty of the outdoors and the reward of great views when you get to the top.  This can make a great cheap holiday to remember, especially if you love camping and other forms of mountaineering.

My husband and I are looking at booking a few group sessions at an outdoor organized climbing site during the summer holidays that welcomes kids to my niece and nephew could join us. With the credit crunch and all the family is quite keen on a camping and climbing holiday. We may even go horse back riding but thats another hubpage :).

I hope this may have inspired you to think about a climbing holiday yourself :) or even just to try something new.

I just move from the Shawangunks in the Hudson Valley Region of New York State which boasts some of the best rock climbing in the world. You should definitely check it out.
