A little summary on Clinical trials

Clinical trials are classified in Phase I, II and III. Phase I usually enroll 10-80 patients it focus on dosage and how the drug should be administered. The aims of Phase I are to evaluate side effects and determine safe dosage of a drug. Patients that do not recover with standard therapies usually choose this clinical trial (CURE, Cancer Research guide 2009).

Phase II usually enroll 40-300 patients is used to carry on evaluating how safe a drug is and its efficiency. Phase III is a mixture between surgical procedures, radiation therapy, conventional drugs and experimental drugs. Treatment is most of the time successful. However some patients at random receive standard treatments. The numbers of people that enroll in Phase III trials are usually very high from 300-5000.  (CURE,Cancer Research guide 2009).

Before signing in any clinical trial remember to ask what are your rights, what are safer treatment options, pro and con of the trial, which kind of communication you will have with research team. Evaluate all the costs because the trial therapy may be free but not the regular medical care. Most of all try to change also your alimentary habits, eat well organic foods and eliminate any other source of stress from your life.
