Everybody that owns an apparel business, specially the start-ups, like to be taken seriously. If you are selling a handcrafted piece, maybe a little bit "rustic", you can go ahead and use the inexpensive, pre-designed clothing labels and just add your one line message to it.

However, if you want your product to be perceived as a high quality piece, and you are competing with "the big guys", you need to try to be at their level as much as you can. One of the elements that will "make you or break you" is the clothing label attached to your piece. It has to convey the feeling of your product, and make it something to remember (Because you want them to remember your brand).

Different styles will go with different products, but in general I consider your clothing labels should be as soft as you can, and specially durable, for the years to come.

That where the choice of woven clothing labels come ahead of the printed labels. As good and durable as some inks claim to be, it will never compare with a woven label, where the deisgn is embedded (or woven) using threads, the same threads that keep the label together. So you know your name will be there for a long time.

Having a custom made clothing label with your company logo is not necessarily expensive, or it doesnt have to be. As a general rule, prices go up with the size of the label, as well as with the number of colors.

If you look around, you will see that most big brands's clothing labels have only 2 colors, generally black and white, and its size doesn't go bigger than 2" x 1". So, if you use a 2" x 1" Black & White woven label, you will be safe. Do yourself a favor and don't overspend on your labels, just make sure they represent you and your products in the best possible way.
