Does Clutter Affect Your Mood? You Bet Your Sweet Bippy!

A cluttered space = A cluttered mind.

If my home is in disarray, so am I. My mood shifts, I become edgy and frustrated, and all I can think about is the clutter that seems to be consuming everything. As a mom to an eight-month-old I must say that in my home, my living room/kitchen area takes most of the heat. From toys that light up and play music, to pillows, blankets, coats, shoes, dishes, bottles...I always feel as though I am picking up or cleaning up something that I just tackled a moment ago. Then again, eight-month-olds, and yes, even husbands tend to find innumerable ways to create clutter. OKAY! OKAY! I will count myself in the fold. Sheesh...

My husband isn't as bothered by clutter; however, since clutter affects my mood he is often very willing to assist me in straightening things up and putting things away. He is the master of the dishwasher. The key is to force yourself to set aside time for cleaning/picking up. Going to bed with the stress of knowing that there is going to be a cluttered mess in the living room or kitchen in the morning isn't worth it. Take that extra half hour to sort through things before bedtime. That way all of the next day's clutter has a clean, and fresh place to gather... ;)

Does clutter affect your mood?

  • Yes - I am pulling my hair out looking at this mess!
  • Moderately - I don't mind putting my feet up on a pile of laundry.
  • No - Clutter? No. Comfort.

I totally agree! When I start to notice that I am getting short-tempered and edgy, that's when I realize that it's because there is "stuff" everywhere. Amazing how cleaning up instantly relaxes me :)
