Coccydynia or tailbone pain can happen because of defect by birth or later at any stage in life. A lot of females get it during the time of the delivery. Sportspersons can get this while playing as the scope of a dislocated tailbone or fracturing your tailbone is more in the case of the sportspersons. Then there is the fractured tailbone because of a fall or a chipped tailbone or even cracked tailbones because of several reasons.

Types of coccyx cushion and coccyx seat cushions

There are several types of coccyx seat cushions that are available. The major types are based on the shape of the cushions and these are ring cushions also called as the dough nut cushions. The other type of cushion is the coccyx tailbone cushion with a cut out in between. The coccyx cushion reduces pain on the spine and the coccyx.

They generally come in a cover and that cover is made up of the polyester or cotton and has a zipper.

Donut cushions as the name suggests are like donuts with a hole in the center. When you sit on them the tailbone should be in the big hole in center. But the preference generally for the cut out cushions or the wedge cut out cushions for the tailbone.

There are inflatable air cushions which have air filled win them and they can be easily carried anywhere you go with air being let go after use

 These cushions are made up of the standard density memory foam which has the temperature sensitivity built into it. This foam being temperature sensitive will take the contours of your body providing good cushion.

There is a cutout section in the whole cushion so that the tailbone does not touch the cushion directly as well as has any pressure applied to it. You can keep the cushion while seating on a normal chair or the car seat.

The cushions are made up of foam which is a special type of memory foam.

This is known as visco-elastic memory foam. This foam was developed by NASA for astronauts but now is used in the cushions such as these because of the fact that this foam is temperature sensitive and also it comes back to its original shape after the pressure you get up from the cushion.

How to treat the coccyx pain

Ice packs are one great way to cure the pain. The other method is of course the tail bone cushions. Surgery is another method which I would say is the last option. The pain is caused by the undue pressure on the tail bone and that pain is referred to as coccydynia.
