A Different Training, It Seems...

  • The moment your puppy gets home up to the next 72 hours, get to know your puppy better. It's necessary to keep the dog at home, keeping it away from strange dogs until it completes its series of vaccinations.

  • Along with your dog, you will also be receiving a record of its schedule so far of vaccinations and wormings. You will also get instructions on further health needs.

  • Soon, you need to confront the fact that your puppy's waste management system in its body is like that of a human infant. But no worries, this signals the start of some important Cockapoo training. It potties when it wakes up, after it eats, after it plays, and before they hit the sack. All puppy owners will need to get the hang, at the soonest possible time, of bringing the dog outside frequently in order for it to eliminate.

  • Your puppy needs to have fresh water regularly and food 2 to 3 times a day. In fact, if your puppy does not drink or eat as sufficiently as you are expecting, you may want to consult your dog's veterinarian.

  • With regard to housetraining, not too much space will be needed since a crate is actually enough. When using a crate, make sdure that you are within view of the dog.

  • Puppies need toys, so a caring owner will need to get those. In fact, it is best that your puppy not play with most of your old, discarded items, unless you want your puppy to be gleefully ignorant of the difference between old (allowed) and new shoes (absolutely off limits).

  • If the dog whines inside the crate, tell it to keep “quiet”. This way the dog understands that its whining never results to you bringing it out of the cage.

  • When you bring your puppy out, put it on a leash and bring it to an area where it ought to go. Do not disrupt this routine or the puppy will end up very confused. Be sure to use consistently the same potty signal word that you use, such as “go potty” or “go poo”, which you could eventually use as a command. If the dog does not relieve itself, take it back to its crate and take it out again in 20 minutes. But every time the dog does eliminate, praise it lavishly.

  • Why not try train your puppy to use a bell which it can use to let you know it wants to go out? Hang the bell by the door and every time you bring your puppy outside, ring the bell and use the signal word. Then promptly open the door and take it out. Do this several times, and watch your dog respond to Cockapoo training!
