Cocker spaniel rescue and why it´s increasing.

Cocker spaniels are great and very good looking.

In my opinion, when puppies, they are the most beautiful breed there is especially english spaniels.

English cocker spaniels usually come in three main colors which are black, golden and black and white patches. The problem with beeing so beautiful is that they attract a lot of attention from people who don´t know anything about owning a dog and much less about cocker spaniels.

You see a couple with a young daughter or son passing by a pet shop and seeing some spaniel puppies trough the glass window. The little boy or girl screams "I want one, I want one" and the parents give in to the emotional impulse buying decision.

Of course they don´t know anything about the breed and how much work it takes, how hyper spaniels are especially the golden ones which seem to have some genetic make up that stimulates hyperactivity, and some other unwanted behaviours like excessive biting.

The new owners quickly get tired of the dog and abandon him/her contributing to the work of cocker spaniel rescue. Luckly there are some very serious associations that take care of these poor dogs and seek a new loving family for them.

If you are serious about adopting a coocker spaniel please try to get as much education about the breed and see if it´s for you. When you finally get your spaniel be kind with him and let him adjust himself to you slowly. With patience and a lot of love you can have a great relationship.
