Coconut Water - An Amazing After Workout Drink

A friend who recommended P90X to me also pushed me to try coconut water. My first thought was…she meant milk. No, coconut water–never heard of but I was game to try it.

First off, the water is very clear and it comes from young coconuts. The meat of the coconut is what produces the coconut milk–so as the coconut ages it produces more meat.

The young coconut has almost no meat and what little meat it has is very soft–almost gel like.

The coconut water is fat-free (a total win). My friend swears by coconut water. She drinks about 3 glasses a day and still takes in about eight gasses of water as well.

After my first tasting of coconut water I wasn’t that impressed. An acquired taste for sure.

The next day after my Yoga X workout I tried it again, this time it was chilled. The taste was better–maybe because I refrigerated it…who knows. But the taste was amazing…nutty, naturally sweet and refreshing.

After more research online, I found that coconut water serves as a great recovery drink after your workout and it supercharges your metabolism and promotes weight loss (another big win).

I was using low-fat Chocolate Milk (sometimes Soy) right after my workouts. I’ve nowswitched to the awesome power of coconut water. It also contains tons of electrolyte nutrients such as potassium, magnesium and other things that prevent cramping.

3 interesting and awesome facts about coconut water:

  • More healthy than Orange Juice – fewer calories
  • Kills intestinal worms when combined with olive oil
  • Helps break up kidney stones

It’s pretty difficult to find the young coconut in Las Vegas so I order from Amazon. Right now I drink the ZICO Pure Premium Coconut Water.

You can sign-up using the Amazon's Subscribe & Save option which will save you an extra 15% on your order. I have it set to deliver 3 cases (total of 36 11-ounce containers) every month since I work out 7 days away on P90X.

I’m considering switching to the O.N.E Brand though–it’s a little cheaper.
