The need for caffeine has always been seen as an addiction of some sort, but lately research has shown that you may actually be getting some benefits out of it. Coffee is now being ranked among the big dogs like red wine, green tea, and chocolate. One of the first studies that was done on caffeine consumption showed that regular coffee drinkers actually had a 41% less risk of liver cancer. These studies were done as both case controlled and otherwise, and they also crossed geographic borders. The results remain consistent, showing that heavy coffee drinkers had an even larger liver protection then those who sipped their java less frequently. All of the coffee drinkers in the studies also showed less signs of liver damage, which is what usually comes before a liver cancer diagnosis.

This is also something that alcohol drinkers need to keep in mind since the research showed that around one cup a day can lower cirrhosis of the liver for alcohol drinkers by 22%. It is a common fact that excessive alcohol drinking is linked to numerous physical problems, so it’s still not advised to drink more than three alcoholic beverages per day. One study showed that a majority of people who develop cirrhosis of the liver were alcohol drinkers, as we all commonly known. This is the same study that pointed out that those who drink coffee actually have less risk of this result. This is not to say that you should substitute coffee for are poor health choices, but it is great to know that your delicious daily cup of Joe is doing more to protect you than you even realized. The protection given by coffee is actually not from caffeine alone because there are many other caffeinated beverages that do not have the same liver protecting properties. Right now there are still many clinical trials being done to identify the exact reason that coffee can protect your liver, but just know that this unique beverage is giving you more protection than you ever hope for.

If you are a tea drinker, this might be the exact information that you need to switch over to the good stuff. There have been many studies over the years going back and forth about what coffee may or may not do for you, but the cat is finally out of the bag because there are more and more coffee findings each year are showing the health benefits of coffee cannot be overlooked. To find amazing liver protection in such a delicious drink is something that I am truly grateful for, and I’m sure that you will feel even more inspired to drink your coffee every morning now that you know that your liver is thanking you. The interesting thing about this study is that the more coffee the subjects drank, the more liver protection that they had. If you are drinking 2 to 3 cups a day, then you will be about 40% less to have cirrhosis, and those who are drinking four or more cups a day are receiving an 80% protection. I like those odds!
