Coffee Grinders
63Types of Coffee Grinders
There are three basic types of coffee grinders. The first type is a hand grinder. These have been used for years and the power comes from your arms.
The second type of grinder is the blade grinder. These are very common and work like a small blender. There out put is not consistent and depends upon how long you grind the beans.
The last type of grinder is a burr grinder. This type of grinder is considered to be the best type to use. The output is consistent and most grinders can be adjusted to different sizes of output.
Hand Coffee Grinder
Hand Coffee Grinder
Hand coffee grinders have been around for years. Many are antiques and collectible. Muscle is the power behind them. The output is variable depending upon the state the mill is in. Antique hand grinders may still work but their output may be variable. The newer hand grinders can be easy to use and their output can be very good. Everything depends upon the "grinding" and the state of the grinder.
Blade Grinder
Blade Grinder
Blace grinders are very popular. They are electric and fast. The output is variable depending upon how long you grind the beans. No matter how long you grind, there will still be a variation in the size of the ground beans.

Why is the mill output so important in making coffee?
Do not underestimate the importance of the size of the grind to the taste of your coffee. If your coffee tastes bitter it may be ground too fine. On the other hand, if your coffee tastes flat, your grind is too coarse.

I'm a burr grinder man myself. I have a Gaggia espresso machine and a blade grinder doesn't create a consistent enough grind for espresso. :)
