Last year when I bought myself a new coffee table for the first time in years, it was a lot more difficult than I had imagined at the time. For example, not only have you got to think of the functional features of the coffee table but you also have to take into account the design and how it will look in your living room. After all, it is the focal point of one of the most important rooms in the house so you need to make sure you get it right. It isn't all about drinking coffee off it!

I spent a lot of time looking around the various UK shops such as IKEA and DFS to try and find the perfect coffee table, but I made a few mistakes and in this article are be talking about how you can make sure you don't fall into the same traps.

For example I didn't set a budget before starting to look so I didn't really know what price range I was looking for. Make sure you know exactly how much you are willing to spend on a new coffee table UK shops won't necessarily be the cheapest but it is a great way of shopping because it allows you to see the table ' in the flesh ' before you buy.

Looking for a coffee table in the UK

For example I was originally attracted to a glass coffee table, however UK shops don't stock that much of a choice on the shop floor so my choice was quite limited. What I should have done before going out and after setting a budget, is to look around on the Internet for the kind of styles that are available and for what price. This would have given me a frame of reference so that I can more easily decide whether what I was looking at really was a good deal.

If you are going to a really modern look then you could try going for an acrylic coffee table, UK shops do sell these now. I'm not a big fan of these types myself because I think it looks too sterile, but many people are and if it is your sort of thing you can get them for around £200.

On the other hand you could go for an oak coffee table which is much more traditional although they do cost a lot because the material is of a high quality. Your lounge will thank you for it though, especially if you have already decorated in a more traditional way.

Another mistake I made which wasted a lot of time was to not think about what I wanted from the coffee table before buying it. For example, do you want to have extra storage? How high do you want it to be? Do you want to have several layers? I went in completely blind and therefore wasted a lot of time looking at coffee tables that I didn't really want in the first place. If you have a clear design type in your mind then you will find it a lot easier to pick the perfect one.

Coffee table UK is a term that is often used to mean coffee tables that are either bought or made in the UK. However even if you live in England you can still buy a coffee table from the United States via the Internet although the postage would be quite a bit and as such would necessarily be cost-effective. You should only consider this if you are after a specific kind of table and can only get it from overseas.

Apart from that it is vital to remember that which coffee table you choose comes mainly down to personal choice, just make sure you buy one that is of a high quality material and since your home well.
