Consider trying Abreva. This medication contains docosanol, the agent responsible for preventing cold sores from getting bigger. It is best to use this product before the blisters open up. If you use it early enough, Abreva can work on cutting the entire ordeal short. Of course, it must be noted that Abreva had been successfully sued for falsely claiming that it's able to reduce cold sore duration by half.

Try using Novitra.

Its main agent is zinc sulfate. While zinc has been commonly used as a healing agent, zinc sulfate is more capable of absorbing sore.

Novitra can help in speeding up the healing process for cold sores. There are two disadvantages however to using this product. Firstly, Novitra is a bit expensive. Secondly, Novitra does not offer pain relief so you'll have to take it together with another painkilling medication.

Try using Zilactin.

It is a gel product which you can apply to your cold sores. It helps in managing the pain as well. This product contains salicylic acid, however, and that could just make your cold sores worse in certain situations. Also, you shouldn't use Zilactin if you are allergic to aspirins.

Releev contains benzalkonium chloride and this agent serves an antiseptic function, capable of cleansing cold sores and helping them dry up.

Releev should not be used, however, for pregnant or nursing women and those allergic to daisies. Indeed, there seems to be a long list of dos and don'ts in its label so you should take care in reading its instructions prior to usage.
