From cookie jars to china plates, from fast food toys to porcelain dolls, refrigerator door magnets, shoes, vintage cars, comic books, music records, CD’s, action figures, sasquatch comics, stamps, NBA cards, these are all just a few items considered collectibles. Rare collectible comic books can now sell as much as USD 200,000 and used old German stamps from China are even sold at a whopping price of $12,000 in the US. Who knew comics and collectibles come this far?

But items are only considered to be collectibles if there are enough of them to collect and they have value because they have been collected and are well kept through time. If you’re thinking about your old kindergarten homeroom drawings, well, they might not count. But if we’re talking about Rembrandt, that’s a whole other story. It seems that a common ground for collectibles to be considered to have value is its good condition. For example, comic books are given the highest rating of 9.9 to 10.0 and are labeled as Mint if the comic is damage free or is almost or near perfect condition.

There are still comics and collectibles being produced like the originals and these are called Limited Edition Collectibles. They may be part of the originally produced bunch but seem far lesser in monetary value. Sometimes, memorabilia’s are also considered collectibles. Like an old movie poster from a 1930’s movie. Or the clothing items used by the actors. A lot of this stuff can be sold on auction and shopping websites and are swapped for other similar or related items.

Even comics have developed a wide variety of genres. For now, there is science fiction, fantasy, romance, horror, drama, manga, action/adventure and many others. After the first comic book was printed in America, a new type of comic book was launched – themed comics. Like any other form of art and literature, Comics have not only been classified by genre but by era as well. Some are republished issues that have been published two years prior or even older. Comics and collectibles have not only been part of a hobby for most collectors even if their interest in collecting spider man comics started that way. They have become a source of income and a way to keep the visual art of storytelling and pottery making or music alive
