A Perfect Gift

Royal Dolls make a great gift idea for the Royalist we know.    Royal dolls are also a great collectible.    The most popular of royal dolls seem to be Princess Diana dolls.   Princess Diana was killed in 1997, but her image is still immensely popular.   She is the mother to Princes William and Harry both of whom are in line for the British throne (ranking number 2 and 3 respectively).

Diana Dolls

Diana Princess of Wales Porcelain Portrait Doll Diana Princess of Wales Porcelain Portrait Doll
This doll is made of porcelain and has been painted by hand. The outfit is one that Diana made famous; a white evening gown with a bolero jacket and topped off by a tiara in true royal fashion. The dress (and matching clutch that the doll is carrying) is hand beaded just like her original dress and clutch were. This beautiful doll is also carrying a rose which is quite poignant as Elton John's song referred to her as England's rose.

There are also some commemorative dolls that were made of Diana wearing her famous wedding dress.   This dress was re-created for so many brides around the world in 1981 (the year Charles and Diana were married) and it is an iconic image.

Still in white is this commemorative doll which comes in a box with the words "Princess of Wales" and "Queen of People's Hearts." I assume it is a replica of an outfit that Diana wore, but it's not one that I recognize.

This porcelain doll represents the black evening gown look that Diana 'owned' with the figure hugging gown and her sapphire and pearl choker around her neck. This choker was actually fashioned from a sapphire brooch that the Queen Mother gave to Diana for a wedding present.

Queen Isabella of Castille was the grandmother of Elizabeth I's half sister Mary. Along with her husband Ferdinand of Aragon Isabella was known as the Catholic Monarchs. Isabella welded a huge influence in Europe, both with her own power as well as by arranging political marriages for her children. A collector's doll in Isabella's image is quite a find and would be a fantastic gift for anyone interested in European royal history.
